I feel the same about lights. I don't think anyone should be faulted for not having them, and in urban areas you shouldn't NEED them, but our infrastructure is less than ideal. Last week I was driving at night to get groceries and was getting into a right turn lane that crossed a bike lane.

This weekend is the 20th anniversary of Nuit Blanche in Toronto. I remember heading to U of T that night because Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya's work was enveloping Philosopher's Walk in fog. It was amazing. For a time capsule, here's my Flickr album from 20 years ago. I'd just gotten my 1st dSLR.

Ride the Link: close the gaps
Today there were two bike rides with similar themes: drawing attention to loops in the city that take advantage of the many off street bike and pedestrian paths that thread through the city, while at the same time are held back by significant gaps where there are no safe bike route connections. The longer route was the Loop Ride which includes parts of the Don Valley, the Don Mills Trail, the Finch Hydro corridor, and the Humber River Trail.

Well, it finally happened. A driver doing a right turn hit me on my bike, in a bike lane. I'm physically ok. My spidey senses served me well; the driver wasn't signaling, but my gut said they might turn, so I slowed down and watched. Slammed on my brakes, so only light contact with my front wheel.

People saying that the province removing speed cameras is just a sign that we should be doing more road safety measures like pedestrian bumpouts and modal filters are technically correct. But also presumably the response of someone who has never tried to get the City to do any of these things.
