It is always such a bummer to hear otherwise smart people on smart podcasts breezily opine that “ADHD is overdiagnosed.” It is far, far, far (far) more common for ADHD to be missed or ignored, especially in girls & adults, than it is to be inappropriately diagnosed or treated.

Not getting appropriate or adequate support to understand or cope w/ ADHD, autism, head injures, or complicated medical conditions-- either growing up or in adulthood-- very commonly results in complex PTSD. Which, itself, is almost never appropriately or adequately addressed.

Let's talk about why ADHD without physical hyperactivity is called ADHD and not ADD. So back in the 80s (when I was growing up) the diagnosis was just ADD. But there were two types... ADD *with* hyperactivity and ADD without.

I don't know who needs to see this, but ADD isn't a thing anymore. The diagnosis is ADHD. And that includes people who have no physically hyperactive symptoms. There's an entire subset of ADHD that is JUST about mental hyperactivity. The more you know 🌈

I don't know who needs to see this but ppl with ADHD aren't messy because they're disorganized. Leaving things out is an intentional organization method because with executive dysfunction, out of sight, out of mind. The "mess" is insurance that they'll remember important things.
