The breathalyzer at the scene and blood work later both came back saying he was impaired, but they only arrested him over a week later after the story was in the media. Weird! Also he called his dad, a captain in the local sheriff's office, before calling 911.

It's now a journalistic minimum that if a person says they support/are a member of Party A but are speaking in support of Party B or one of their candidates you must check party registration and donations. Too many cases where people are on Party B's county committee.

The underlying survey is interesting. One other point is assistance tech. People like things that assist them: warning about cars in blind spots and lane assist. But when the car takes over you lose control.

This is a good, clear-eyed thread. Also: the only times you see cyclists in the Netherlands with helmets are kids and racing cyclists. People going 30 km/h+ for hours on country roads get in more severe crashes than people going 15 km/h for 15 minutes. Same with new cyclists without balance.

Helmet PSAs have been extremely successful in mostly convincing anyone's friends and family who don't bike, and who love to spread the gospel that unless you're carrying around a large piece of equipment wherever you go, you shouldn't even consider getting on a bike

The City of Ottawa posted the raw speed data from before and after Doug Ford banned speed cameras and the effect is so obvious it's not even necessary put a line marking when that happened. This chart shows the percentage of drivers going 15km/h or more over the posted limit.

Virginia is interesting in that you cannot have any non-primary election on primary day. Primaries are two separate, simultaneous elections done on behalf of political parties, so no generals or specials allowed. You don't want a special the same day as one party with a competitive race and one not.
