These are called crossrides, they're legal crossings for both pedestrians and cyclists in which the latter don't need to dismount. Drivers must yield. They're big in Ontario as you can't legally bike through a crosswalk. www.durham.ca/living-here/...

I'll never forgive the people who completely changed the established definitions or "open", "closed" and "primary". It's just done so much damage to public understanding of election systems, all for a system worse, imho, than the status quo.

Ontario eliminated grade 13 in 2003, resulting in ~2x as many people going to university in one year. There was some smoothing, but it was a mess for a while. And it's a lot easier to up a lecture from 60 to 120 students than elementary school classes from 20 to 40. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario...

It is very funny that Congress essentially bans NFL broadcasts on Friday evenings and Saturdays for most of the season in exchange for antitrust immunity.

Because every elementary school would need to double their kindergarten teachers immediately and increase their number of classtooms by ⅙, or class sizes would have to double. That's just not scalable in no time, especially in a country that pays its teachers so little up front.

How is this even possible? You can click on a Munich trunk station in Google Maps and just count the trains, this doesn't require embedding for six months. Maybe there needs to be some ready online resource of best practices and what's possible.

Probably. Sabena was just much smaller than KLM, and with LH ownership you're just going to get more focus on LH and LX airports. But it is a convenient transfer.

Schiphol gets all the love but Zaventem is similar and added some resiliency (trains can loop back to Brussels, and come into Brussels from a different direction or bypass it if there's a problem).

The breathalyzer at the scene and blood work later both came back saying he was impaired, but they only arrested him over a week later after the story was in the media. Weird! Also he called his dad, a captain in the local sheriff's office, before calling 911.

1. Boss said doors are working properly. 2. Boss said equipment is designed to prevent this. 3. The tragedy happened. It's impossible for all 3 to be true. Either the equipment failed or it's not designed to prevent this (most likely). Also the conductor wasn't trained on his most important job???

The whole claimed reason for 2TPO is because the trains are too long and they need a conductor to ensure no one is stuck in the doors (and emergencies). What are we even doing here?

Yah it seems like it, Brazil too. And it'd still be relatively flat to IA, assuming there's room on the more direct tracks. Just seems like an odd choice for the central planning industrial policy we have going on lately.

That's a reasonable possibility. But the case with the math research there was apparently a rumour that this guy was working on it, so you could just check the logs of this one person rather than your entire userbase. You could first check it manually to see if he was doing research or daily tasks.

In addition to my hot take of "don't compare bus network redesigns to the actual Nazis," my other hot take is "the bus is not your door-to-door taxi service and if you can't walk a few blocks to the bus stop, you should use Access-A-Ride instead." That's not as politically clean though.

You'd also have to stop home schooling or they'd just recreate it unofficially by doing what is common now (forming groups to share teaching, etc). I could also imagine a county that's very segregated and you put the schools on the county lines so you'd end up only being near your demo's schools.

This is like when you shoot at a cop and the cop shoots back and kills someone else and you get charged for their murder. Make it an unsympathetic criminal or a sympathetic person shooting at a home invader who's actually a SWAT team at the wrong address depending on your proclivities.
