Here's another perspective on how quickly the melt season has started for #Antarctic sea ice this year... More views at zacklabe.com/antarctic-se...
Line graph time series of 2026's daily Antarctic sea ice extent compared to 1981-2010 climatological statistics. The graph shows the seasonal cycle, and ice-free conditions are indicated at 1 million square kilometers. Sea ice is currently below average for early October.

For those keeping track of Albedo, the latest CERES data for July shows a big downward jump. The record 12-month low was set towards the end of 2023, at the height of the 23/24 El Nino. Is a new record 12-month low coming? Stay tuned.

Let that sink in… Greenland + Antarctica lost 11,000,000,000,000 tonnes of ice between 1979 and 2023. 84% was driven by glacier dynamics, with ice flowing into the ocean faster than being replaced, while 16% came from surface melting/runoff and snowfall changes. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Do not underestimate the scale of this climate crisis. We are watching feedback loops accelerate, ice sheet collapse, ocean heat content, methane release, that could lock in irreversible warming. We have all witnessed the data, and it is not slowing down.
