There's always a Calvin & Hobbes.
Calvin & Hobbes cartoon. The pair is outside, in autumnal colours but it must be early in autumn because Calvin is still just wearing his t-shirt, no little jacket. He is pondering out loud to his friend, who is mostly looking on thoughtfully as they clamber through the landscape, Calvin gesticulating animatedly as his lays out his conundrum: 'Today at school, I tried to decide whether to cheat on my test or not. I wondered, is it better to do the right thing and fail ... or is it better to do the wrong thing and succeed? On he one hand, undeserved success gives no satisfaction, but on the other hand, well-deserved failure gives no satisfaction either. Of course, most everybody cheats some time or other. People always bend the rules if they think they can get away with it. ... ten again, that doesn't justify my cheating. Then I thought, look, cheating on one little test isn't such a big deal. It doesn't hurt anyone. ... but then I wondered if I was just rationalising my unwillingness to accept the consequence of not studying. Still, in the real world, people care about success, not principles. ... then again. Maybe that's why the world is in such a mess. What a dilemma!'. The pair have come to a halt, and Hobbes looks very absorbed in the reflection, with his hand in his chin and his other hand on his hip. 'So what did you decide?' He asks, reasonably. 'Nothing,' Calvin responds, 'I ran out of time and I had to turn in a blank paper'. They walk on, Hobbes sagely observes 'anymore, simply acknowledging the issue is a moral victory', with his hands behind his back. 'Well,' Calvin follows up, 'it just seemed wrong to cheat on an ethics test'.

Fun new acquisition: an illuminated copy of the 1470 edition of De civitate Dei, published in Venice by the brothers Johannes and Vindelinus de Spira.
Illuminated opening page, with large initials "I" and "G" in gold, with white vine borders into three margins. A wreath painted in the lower margin was not originally filled in, but an armorial was added in later, in ink, then crossed out.

📚 100 years ago today, Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends opened up a book to their enchanted Hundred Acre Wood. 🍯 🧸🐝🐰🐷 Read the full extent of their stories from a century ago at the Internet Archive. Courtesy of the #publicdomain.👇 archive.org/details/winn...
Black-and-white pen-and-ink illustration by E. H. Shepard of Winnie-the-Pooh sitting on a log and gazing upward beside a large tree. Behind him is a dark doorway at the tree’s base, with a sign reading “MR SANDERS” above it, a small bell, a hanging bell pull, and a partial note reading “RNIG ALSO.” A small pile of sticks lies on the ground to the right. Dense cross-hatching forms the tree.
