FOM and no longer being able to sell into the EU are my only IRL experiences of UK residents feeling the effects of having left the EU. All the UK media + gov obsessions of fishing quotas, chemical, phytosanitary and CE regulations don't affect any of them. They've got it all arse backwards.

But if one of the parents learnt and could speak the language they migrated to, it's in the home environment. I can imagine this would be a lot more prevalent at the parent stage with English rather than German.

Is this something to do with the ubiquity of the English language though? Would someone go out of their way to learn German on the off chance that in the distant future they would end up migrating to Germany? I can imagine they might learn English because it's relatively available to learn.

Ah, memories of my time as a UK + EU citizen with a non EU spouse resident in the EU. We used to have a highlighted copy of EU Directive 2004/38/EC in order to educate the hierarchy of clueless UK border force goons we'd always have to deal with travelling to the UK.

I don't know. I was watching from Spain, and to me he always seemed to be explaining to very stupid children that if they wanted to do the stupid thing, then bad things are going to happen, and then watching the stupid children do the stupid thing, because it wasn't his job to stop them.

I've no idea TBH, my mission at that point was getting home. It didn't really matter where I was. There was a cab firm at the station, and a couple of other sleepy stragglers to share the journey back.

After having spent 2013-2020 as governor of the Bank of England, advising UK politicians about the consequences of Brexit, being ignored and abused, and then watching it all come true, I doubt he's going to be very keen on letting them anywhere near Canada's relationship with the EU.

Neighbours built a giant extension that broke planning rules but got away with it thanks to a council error. They asked me to water their lawn while they were away on holiday, so I installed an underground irrigation system, fed from a urinal I fitted in our downstairs toilet. 1/2

13/12/2019 I woke up to Boris Johnson having been voted in as PM with a Tory majority on 43% of votes. A landslide victory in the UK. Brexshit was definitely going to happen. I booked the exams I needed to apply for Spanish nationality.

Here in Spain, Chinese markets and clothes shops are full of these t-shirts, except within a 5km buffer of anywhere you'd expect there to be English speakers (inc guiris generally). There's obviously some filtering that goes on when the shop has employees who might speak English as well as Spanish.
