It is so mentally corrosive to try to ascertain, every day, whether the images I am seeing or the texts I am getting or the phone calls I am receiving are real - produced by a human who is trying to communicate something with me, even indirectly. It makes me feel insane and paranoid all the time

It SEEMS like a lot of the technology I used to use fairly seamlessly is now failing regularly. I swear to God three years ago I could say "hey Google play ween" and it would, with no issue, 90% of the time. Now it's down to like 64%. Am I misremembering? Was that real?

Yup, saw a clip of an 80s film on Instagram yesterday, loads of comments underneath it saying things like it was their favourite, pretty certain the whole thing was AI as I'd never seen it before, none of the comments named the film, and it was just weird.

Another thing that bothers me is AI-induced uniformity. All images promoting local events, like gigs, markets, town festivals all look the same, they are all genAI replicating some cursed training data. Menus in takeaways are terrible frankensteinifications of food, all the same style and garish.

Thank you for articulating, I’m in the same situation. I’m a computer person, and It’s very disorienting. If there’s a counter to this, I’ve become more appreciative of people and experiences in meatspace. I find actual humans more interesting and the effort of empathy fulfilling. I cry now. Wild.
