Given how much Los Angeles' terrible governance on housing and homeless affects the rest of the state, it's no exaggeration to call the LA Mayor's race the most important election in California this cycle.

This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

Also, ridership has been soaring over the past year, recovering from the dip that occurred during the pandemic. Cuts to transit would just lead to lower quality transit services + service cuts, which would reduce ridership further

The thing about problems like transit cost bloat is that there is not an easy partisan villain to blame. It’s bad grant design, it’s empowering local governments with vetos, it’s bogging down projects in env. lawsuits, it’s austerity. There is plenty of blame to go around for libs and cons alike!

Of course we need cut bureaucratic barriers for transit projects. But that is a completely separate effort that will require dedicated, ongoing advocacy. Conservatives want to treat public policy problems like morality tales. “If only we cut off junkies like BART they’d shape up!”

Denying BART and Muni et al operations funds will do *nothing* to address capital project bloat problems. If anything, this will make the problem far worse. We need state and federal reforms to cut red tape with more wholistic funding programs. Starving transit ops gets us no closer to this!

This sort of stuff makes me want to scream. The cost bloat is in *capital projects* not in operations! Capital projects are bloated because of a complex web of balkanized permitting processes, the byzantine and inconsistent nature of federal grant funding, and outsourcing talent to consultants.

Meanwhile, the Trump family is disrupting the corruption industry, in ways that make Guilfoyle’s request for cash payments seem pitifully outdated. Let’s take just a sample of recent stories. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/stop-paper...
Trump invited another round of bribes in the form of worthless meme coin purchases. The biggest buyers will have the honor of dining with the President. Trump is estimated to have made $1 billion in crypto gains, while his investors have lost $4.7 billion. Other family members also benefit. The President’s 20-year-old son, still attending college, is estimated to have gained $150 million from the family crypto ventures.

Defense companies with ties to Don Jr. and Eric Trump have netted $6 billion in Pentagon contracts. What are the odds that two guys with no defense background would have such an unerring sense of where the Pentagon would want to invest its resources?

Trump’s son-in-law, and golfing buddy, are brokering Middle East peace and an end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while also negotiating business deals in the regions. For example, part of a potential peace deal for Ukraine is a multibillion-dollar oil deal that benefits Middle East executives with ties to Kushner and Witkoff.

When you offer a bare bones, factual description of what Guilfoyle has been up to, it sounds absolutely insane. But here we are: America's government under the Trumps. People of Greece, if you are listening, we are sorry. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/stop-paper...
Here is what happened: the former girlfriend of the President’s son asked an aspiring Republican politician for $100,000 to settle her credit card bill right before her Senate confirmation for an Ambassadorship, which she seems to have been awarded as a break-up present from the Trump family. (The son has since married, with the celebrations partially financed by a Russian oligarch with ties to Putin). She had previously received $300,000 from the donor for what seem to be largely unfulfilled promises of political favors.

As Ambassador to Greece, she has been pushing other countries to do business with an oil-and-gas lobbyist who has been attending her official meetings, and suggesting that the US could bring down the Greek government any time they wanted.
