“There is absolutely no reason to pay attention to these people. You won’t get my thoughts on this. I have little time in everyday life for idiocy – and even less on social media.”

I’m serious about this. If a plan, to obstruct fans’ enjoyment of 1 football game by switching off floodlights at a match for £ gain for self & others, sufficed to convict D of common law public nuisance & get a 4 year sentence, then on its face this clearly warrants police attention (RvOng CrA2001)

Both the report & the so called comprehensive equalities impact assessment, stated to be authored by a senior lawyer, can be viewed here. Anybody here think this could survive a judicial review? FWIW I don’t. Let’s hope it’s tested, this is a truly awful precedent & not just for asylum seekers.

Tonight’s fascist attack on an RNLI lifeboat is the result of years of stochastic terrorism directed at asylum-seekers by mainstream politicians and media. Repeated high profile claims that “we must stop these people!”. The fascists are simply following through on that rhetoric.

He could have quite explicitly stated that they don't, because they don't. This isn't an area to go "oh people think". We have the evidence. They just don't. If you want to claim to be a progressive, liberal, party, you have to actually challenge right wing, predominantly, lies and scare mongering.

I had no idea of this extraordinary episode. I reminds us of how easily people can be declared "illegal" or "immigrant" rather than native. These are not natural kinds, but administrative categories. Striking parallels with the Windrush scandal. Of interest to all, but tagging @spe07.bsky.social

Let me tell you about the Overton window:
A white, middle-aged, middle-class, clergyman in the Church of England, who volunteers with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a radical leftist seeking to bring down Western society.

I agree with Sunder. The Commission has wide ranging investigation powers that are tailored to the job and likely more effective than those enjoyed by the Police. It’s arguable they have power to prosecute by necessary implication; ie why empower them to investigate crime if it’s a police matter?
