Whenever a weird movie gets bad reviews i just think about the fact that The Thing flopped at the box office and had middling reviews at the time. Sometimes people are just wrong!

These are literally the best value cities in the country. Everything else is either sprawling suburbia or too expensive for what it offers.

These people cannot be trusted to vote in their best interests. Ever. They have failed at the most simple task and have driven this country to ruin. They are too stupid to be allowed to have a say in the future of the country. Convince a non-voter to vote. There are LOTS of those.

I'm positive that the title of this doc, "You Can See Everything," is a reference to this "Nathan For You" Guy Zone segment where Nathan is baiting a guy into talking about his favorite sex position.

Sometimes I think about the parallel canon of regional rap songs I grew up with that nobody really talks about anymore. This was huge with my cousins in Mississippi in 1994: youtu.be/GQ8cjn26NZE?si=PxwDToZU-Qb4zrJ3

Makes me think about how even popular rappers used to make reference to people, events, and phrases well before their time. Jay Z would mention Errol Flynn. Biggie would say stuff like "Oh come, come now."

I think about this interview with the distinguished philosopher Conan O'Brien a lot. I actually think this is a healthy way to live your life! www.nytimes.com/2019/01/14/a...
Is this how you want to go out, with a show that gets smaller and smaller until it’s gone?

Maybe that’s O.K. I think you have more of a problem with that than I do. [Laughs.] At this point in my career, I could go out with a grand, 21-gun salute, and climb into a rocket and the entire Supreme Court walks out and they jointly press a button, I’m shot up into the air and there’s an explosion and it’s orange and it spells, “Good night and God love.” In this culture? Two years later, it’s going to be, who’s Conan? This is going to sound grim, but eventually, all our graves go unattended.

You’re right, that does sound grim.

Sorry. Calvin Coolidge was a pretty popular president. I’ve been to his grave in Vermont. It has the presidential seal on it. Nobody was there. And by the way, I’m the only late-night host that has been to Calvin Coolidge’s grave. I think that’s what separates me from the other hosts.

I had a great conversation with Albert Brooks once. When I met him for the first time, I was kind of stammering. I said, you make movies, they live on forever. I just do these late-night shows, they get lost, they’re never seen again and who cares? And he looked at me and he said, [Albert Brooks voice] “What are you talking about? None of it matters.” None of it matters? “No, that’s the secret. In 1940, people said Clark Gable is the face of the 20th Century. Who [expletive] thinks about Clark Gable? It doesn’t matter. You’ll be forgotten. I’ll be forgotten. We’ll all be forgotten.” It’s so funny because you’d think that would depress me. I was walking on air after that.

It gives BlackTwitter™️ vibes. It feels corporate and fake to me, because it is. How deep can the conversations go on a platform that censors any real substantive discussions? Zuck not about to let y’all get too real over there. It’s never going to be OG Twitter stop trying to sell it to me lol

On the flip side (just in general not in reference to anything in this discussion )... there's definitely been a thing where the internet gets mad at people being indifferent to things they love, in the way that "let people enjoy" things started as a response to taste being insulted, but morphed

Gordon Gartrelle @mrgartrelle.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
also, that this is a great example why trying to argue on the internet is pointless. There are 0 incentives for context, or understanding. Everything is "oh, so you're saying..." / "oh, you must be..." and trying to cast folks as the most easily dismissed opponents, even when they don't fit.

My mother & her cousin ran that cassette into the DIRT, I tell you. In my family, we refer to the song as "OWWWWW, Whip Appeal!" cause that's what my mom said every time she heard the opening notes.

I've heard him give this take for years. He's not even saying the songs aren't hits or jams or that the music isn't good; he's talking about the lyrics, which... I know folks love Babyface, but try to be objective.

I say this a ton, but that album has a case for the best hip hop album of '94, which is the greatest year there's ever been for hip hop albums.
