Here's Backpack as a yearling in 2007, unable to put weight on the injured paw. Holly took her cub & moved upriver, away from aggressive bears who might harm him at Brooks Falls. Fishing was harder for the pair, and she risked both of them struggling or starving, but he was SAFE.

Backpack in 2007, nursing an injured paw that is turned under, so that he can't put any weight on it. If you're wondering why they didn't provide vet care, it's their policy not to interfere when an injury is natural and not caused by human activity.

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

Please help. People's needs always increase this time of year but this year is even greater than usual, and when we run out of tents people are sleeping unsheltered. Finances are tight for everyone but how far are any of us from homelessness?

Weeknight drop-ins have tripled we are tired and out of money. Please donate via the links in our bio so we can continue to support unhoused people.

We cannot keep up with the demand caused by current situations in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, we need financial support.

How neat, because I experienced something similar in 2019! 😀 Must be that kinda day.

One of the more pleasant things about living in an apartment complex.

Sitting on the couch, sipping coffee, with Pidge sprawled across my lap and purring loudly.

Out in the hallway, I hear a neighbor's door swing open. A pause, then a man's voice calls out, "I love you!" followed by a muffled, indistinct reply.

The door is closed, and footsteps descend the staircase, fading away until the only sound left is that of the birds.

The morning walk w/ the dog was through a big park w/ a baseball diamond at one end; beyond that is a row of trees hiding a residential neighborhood. A shouted "I love you Rhoana!" is heard echoing from that direction. & I imagine an eye-rolling child slightly smile as they walk away to school. 🥰 💕
