Not for the first time recently, I've found myself thinking what the fuck are these Greens actually for? None of it seems very green.

Enterprise software companies had a short-lived run where they competed on usability and product-led growth which seems to be over. Now every SaaS app seems to be converging on the same UX monstrosity, complete with AI features of dubious value.

you almost have to admire the effective altruists for coming right out and saying “we feel a keen debt to the criminal who stole the money that provided seed funding for Manifund, which is why we’re hiring her and paying her with some of it instead of returning it to FTX creditors”

Most of the software that runs on nearly all drones and UAVs has been open-source for a long time. This initiative is making the motherboards and speed controller hardware open-source designs, too. Very cool indeed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xEB...

thats not a particularly great example, just recent. linus explicitly giving the "you know how this goes now": > "We all know the drill by now: "it's big, yadda yadda". it's kind of amazing that everything seemed like it worked, given how much has gotten changed/fixed in the past year. just wild.

I really love @colin-fraser.net suggestion that one of the (many) reasons models get arithmetic wrong is, perhaps, that they have been trained on a load of exam papers, and have ingested wrong answers. I am stuck on the idea of whether memorisation is a good or a bad thing.

Sometimes I come across a screenshot of a normie using ChatGPT with memory on (viz. this from TikTok via Twitter) and people get crazy cooked even just through bare chatbot interactions. Persistent interaction with long-running agents via texting/voice will be another 4o style mass psychosis event.

AWS spent nine months interviewing 154 executives for Reimagine 2026. The line that carries the week: CIOs who fought shadow IT for years now face shadow AI at ten times the scale. A two-week experiment that waits a month for approval stops asking. Which half of your AI estate did you approve?

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
