i thought this was neat ballsandstrikes.org/ethics-accou...

Screenshotted excerpt from the linked article, with the final two sentences highlighted in green, reading as follows:

Courts have an array of options for punishing noncompliance and compelling the administration to follow court orders. The most glaringly underutilized tool judges have at their disposal is the power of contempt, which allows judges to compel testimony and to impose penalties like escalating fines or even imprisonment. Sometimes, the mere threat of contempt is sufficient to trigger remedial action: In January, for instance, after the administration failed to release a habeas petitioner from immigration detention as directed, a federal district court ordered the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to “appear personally before the Court and show cause why he should not be held in contempt.”

In its order, the court acknowledged that compelling an agency head to testify was “an extraordinary step,” but reasoned that “the extent of ICE’s violation of court orders is likewise extraordinary,” and that “lesser measures have been tried and failed.” Within hours, the government released the petitioner. Members of the Trump administration had no desire to follow the law, but they had even less desire to explain themselves under penalty of perjury.

One thing that I think Apple is oddly notorious for is "invisiblization". This is a key aspect of "It just works" as a design philosophy. It's the way that UI elements don't exist until they can be interacted with.

Statement On V/H/S SCP Foundation Film

The staff and authors of the SCP Foundation Wiki (the real-life writing project behind the SCP Foundation universe and its official home) were not consulted or contacted regarding this film. We have been attempting to contact the filmmakers but haven't yet been successful. To be clear: we have not had any communication with the filmmakers, producers, or distributors for this project, despite our best efforts, and to the best of our knowledge they have not made any efforts to contact us. Furthermore, A24 does not and cannot have any exclusive rights to anything related to the SCP Foundation, including any films that Spooky Pictures or anyone else may choose to create.

hey why is no one talking about the licensing situation with this A24/SCP thing? are they releasing it under the same cc-by-sa license every SCP project is required to have? are they betting creative commons won't hold up in court? seems like the kind of question a journalist should look into idk

"tax revenue" is a load-bearing term here, and it's flimsy af. You get some amount of direct tax revenue for a gigantic box that hires like 50 people and is generally premises on just *being there*(consuming power and water). That's not really valuable compared to actual workers getting paid locally
