It feels so bleakly absurd that every few months there's a shocking story about some large group of men enacting violent harm on women and girls, and in the gaps everyone just goes back to arguing about whether immigrants or trans people in general might somehow be a threat to women and girls.

With the final report of the autism, ADHD and mental health review expected soon, here's a reminder of what their interim report actually said. We, as a community, helped bury this by giving all our attention to a misleading Times headline on publication day instead. Let's not do that again.

<TAPS THE SIGN> <AGAIN> if the government wants fewer young people out of work on disability benefits with ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, it will have to provide actual meaningful NHS care for them, not just in theory, but in practice. Not just guidelines, but commissioned services in every ICB.

Buried in the final, paywalled, paragraph of the latest Times article about autism: Uta Frith "very much regrets" her comments on Chris Packham. Those comments (while inexcusable) were a response to a direct question about Packham's autism. Almost like it's been deliberately stoked up for clicks...
Text reads: "An enterprising documentary maker, I think, might ask [Uta] Frith to go along next year and record what conversations ensued. They might not all be confrontational. Both sides of the argument certainly mean well, and Frith has since written to me to say that she now realises she crossed a line by discussing Chris Packham: "I very much regret what I said." And, [Mary] Doherty, who has exchanged emails with Frith, says she would love to chat to her. "I do have compassion for her. I do understand where she's coming from. But, ultimately, I think she's completely wrong."

I am stating the obvious to trans folks, but for the cis amongst us - A surgery on the NHS has the exact same protocols as any other surgery. It is done with a consultant, various other doctors and the patient and their referring department. These booked surgeries involved the only experts needed.

The British press bullied a vulnerable person to death, and they had fun doing it. Jason Arday made mistakes. He was publicly humiliate and mobbed for those mistakes purely because he was Black and autistic. Anti-woke ghouls decided to make an example of him. It’s not a ‘tragedy’. It’s a travesty.

Whenever a disabled person successfully does something it's easy to ignore the process with all its additional obstacles and sometimes suffering. If you only look at the endresult it's easy to say "You did it, so it couldn't have been that hard"
