I'm hearing a lot about the queer community being divided and members fighting between each other as much as I love my community, I'm ok with us being divided I certainly won't cater to transphobes or racists, nor share spaces with them

If you’re one of the sad homosexuals in the camp of ‘LGB’ without the ‘TQ’, block or unfollow me. You fail to understand all the T and Q have done to secure your rights in this country. You can’t support bigotry and enjoy the benefits of gay culture. If I see you at an event, I’ll ask you to leave.

Whenever British journalists talk about including more GC voices on Bluesky, what they fail to account for is that many GCs would rather meet with open racists who agree with them on gender neutral toilets than with centrist liberals who don’t. This is from Maya Forstater’s review of the last year.

It's post-hoc justification. They want to cut benefits to disabled people so they can get a bigger house. Either that makes them absolute monsters, or all disabled little are scammers and fakers. So, you see, how easy it would be to get a story like this in the paper with those incentives.

Blake Morrison on what it cost him (not his publisher) to include lines from pop lyrics in his 2007 novel South of the River.
My editor was more cautious and at the last minute someone from the publishing house helpfully secured the permissions on my behalf. I still have the invoices. For one line of Jumping Jack Flash: €500. For one line of Wonderwall': €535.
For one line of 'When I'm Sixty-Four': £735. For two lines of 'I Shot the Sheriff: €1,000. Plus several more, of which only George Michael's 'Fast Love' came in under £200. Plus VAT. Total outlay: €4,401.75. A typical advance for a literary novel by a first-time author wouldn't meet the cost. And doubtless permission fees are far more expensive these days - the novel came out in 2007.

The way Jacob wrestled with a hot human angel all night long. Always here for whatever Elizabeth Willis is bringing to poetry. Always and all ways.
The Perils of Pauline (1914)
In an ancient book there was a man who lived on location in the desert. At noon he wrestled with the sun the way Jacob wrestled with a hot human angel all night long:
When he got up from the dust, he had a new name that rhymed with his old one. Paul was the exemplary convert.
On film it's Pauline who's in the wilderness—a confused ideal of vulnerability and strength, of genius and foolish luck.
The perils of her serialized life unfold among other encounters with identity staged on nearby sets.
Oscar Apfel and Cecil B. DeMille are codirecting what is said to be the first full-length feature whose centerpiece is not Pauline's starched curls upon the rails, but a frontier pileup of cultural, sexual, and class anxiety in the interracial West.
Conquest and ruin are the stars of a new experience of time and inevitability.
The clock is the god of film. Speed it up. Run it in reverse.
Take the body in your arms. Before you reach the falls.
-Elizabeth Willis

Louise Glück ♥️ “You see again how far away / each thing is from every other thing.” from AVERNO
TELESCOPE

There is a moment after you move your eye away when you forget where you are because you've been living, it seems, somewhere else, in the silence of the night sky.
You've stopped being here in the world.
You're in a different place,
a place where human life has no meaning.
You're not a creature in a body.
You exist as the stars exist, participating in their stillness, their immensity.
Then you're in the world again.
At night, on a cold hill, taking the telescope apart.
You realize afterward not that the image is false but the relation is false.
You see again how far away each thing is from every other thing.

SOLSTICE
June's edge. The sun
Turns kind. Birds wallow in the sob of pure air,
Crated from the coast... Un-real. Unreal. I see the cure
Dissolving on the screen. Outside, dozing In its sty, the neighbors' offspring Sucks its stuffed monster, given Time. And now the end begins:
Packaged words. He purrs his need again.
The rest is empty. Stoned, stone-blind she totters to the lock
Through webs of diapers. It is Christmas on the clock,
A year's precise,
Terrible ascent, climaxed in ice.
