Well that sucks. Did Alabama get any increases in federal funding and any other departments or areas? Or did we just lose massively all around? www.al.com/news/2026/09...

THE WIFE
My husband sucks her tits.
He walks into the night, her Roma, his being alive.
Toward that outer love. I wait in the hotel until four. I lurch from the bed
talking to myself, watch my face in the mirror.
I change my eyes, making them darker.
Take it easy, I say. It is a long time to wait in, this order of reality. My presence stings.
I grow specific without consequence.

The Cornell rape case owes so much to the self-styled “Greek system” which uses exclusivity as a prerogative to take whatever one wants among the humans who believe they deserve it and are entitled to it. Please spare me the #notallfratboys twaddle ✌️

Poems That Speak to Other Poems

A poem may address another poem in different ways-- directly, indirectly, as a legacy or a disputation.

Throughout the history of poetry, the poetic form has emerged from dialogue with its ancestry. Many poems also dialogue with others through traces or by picking up lines and carrying them into the present. Each poem sets the conditions and demarcates the terrain of its particular intimacy and intensity. In this generative workshop, we will explore writing poems that speak to or with the poems that have shaped us.
Alina Stefanescu was born in Romania and lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her partner and several intense mammals. Recent books include a creative nonfiction chapbook, Ribald (Bull City Press Inch Series, Nov. 2020) and Dor, which won the Wandering Aengus Press Prize (September, 2021). Her debut fiction collection, Every Mask I Tried On, won the Brighthorse Books Prize (April 2018). Alina's poems, essays, and fiction can be found in Prairie Schooner, North American Review, World Literature Today, Pleiades, Poetry, BOMB, Crab Creek Review, and others. She serves as editor, reviewer, and critic for various journals and is currently working on a novel-like creature. My Heresies, a poetry collection was published by Sarabande in late April 2025. Some of the longest words that can be written using musical notation include acceded, baggage, defaced, and feedbag. If you substituted H for B, you could add the words headache, beachhead, eggheaded, and deadheaded to this list. Rumor has it the longest word ever scored is 'cabbage-faced'.

I shared this @alinaetc.bsky.social stunner in a Teachers as Poets group last week!
I Nominate the Magnolia as Sexiest Tree

Forget the stories of fairy-tailed monsters that spooked you: the wolves in southern ladies' eyes will eat you for brunch with ambrosia salad. There is no forest outside the tradition's silk tent: an alien must wed a southern man to keep the south in her mouth from losing the ballpark. I wear a skirt to seem worthy of wind lifting it skyward. I practice kissing the trunk's shoulder. I plant a tiny magnolia in the middle of my middle daughter's name so none can deny her placement.

A Brief Correspondence Course
When I close a letter with "Cordially," I blush with shame.
It sounds insincere.
But when a letter
comes to me
with that same closing, I glow with warmth.
I smile. I think this person is cordial, although until
a few moments ago
I had never heard of him. In fact he is a wild palooka in a half-lit office, his hair crazed with enterprise, large rubber mice in
the corridor.
Sincerely,
Ron Padgett
