Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

Genuinely wonder what it must be like to be a second wave feminist who pointed it all out for decades - rape as a weapon of war, an expression of power, and a means for male bonding - and we're here. We're still here. Sans roe v wade even.

'I wanted to know: when the world feels like stone, when the whole idea of making meaning feels pointless because the texture of reality is inhuman and the right language for it is beyond you, what do you do?' This is a gorgeous read. Highly recommend!

Dialogue

Judith and her Maidservant (1613-14)

Where shall we put the head?

It drips through the basket.
Put your hair in braids tonight, my love.
Set pearls in your ears.

We have tasks. Tasks that require
a weapon. Tie your laces. Bring

a basket. Bring your mother's
basket, the one that could hold

a pig's head. Bring a white cloth.

Three people, including a child, drowned in the Channel today. Our politics is so broken that the debate is never about how we stop these deaths and always about how we can come up with harsher policies that make more deaths inevitable.

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing. Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

64 years ago, on the 27th of September 1962, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published. It handled the environmental harm caused by the pesticide DDT and the disinformation spread by the chemical industry. Carson managed to sway public opinion and even policy. #otd #history 🗃️

Every now and then - more now these days than then - you hear something like this by a respectable person in a calm voice on a respectable platform and get a kind of vertigo over how hateful and demented things have gotten in the UK. A very large part of public discourse is utterly insane.

For some years after Diana died, people stopped talking about her so much. For those of us alive when she was a tabloid constant, it had dignity and felt like a relief. I think she often wanted a break from the attention too. Let her rest in peace.

The Washington Post opinion section is an elaborate experiment to find the least compelling angle on everything
As the weather cools and the leaves change color, take in the beauty of Earth while getting some exercise if you're able. Just don't be under the illusion that you're rebelling against modernity. Hiking is fun only because of the industrial revolution.
