The butterfly is part of the Linda Ford Wallace collection, which also has cat-themed notions. The last three photos show cat-shaped pin cushions. cc: @catsofyore.bsky.social IG tatterbluelibrary and elliotrockart

Beautiful 1860s Victorian butterfly, which was used to store small packets of sewing needles on the underside of the wings. This was a collaboration between a London-based drapers company and a sewing needle manufacturer. On exhibit at Tatter Blue, a Brooklyn textile museum. IG tatterbluelibrary

The underside of the butterfly, which has little pockets to store sewing needle packets. The underside of the wings are decorated with two plates. One carries an inscription of the drapers company: "Copestake, Moore, Crampton & Co. - London." The other has a gilded head of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, art, trade, and war.

The butterfly can be folded up, like how a butterfly flaps its wings.

Yup. My Journey fanart got flagged, and I actually got it appealed... but then it got flagged again! It was a miserable time and I'd hate to see it repeated.

One thing that doing creative work teaches you is that ideas are worth nothing. Anybody can have an idea. In a writers room you have to come up with a hundred ideas a day, and most of those don’t make the page. It’s the work of making something that gives it value. The patina of humanity.

A photo of a ceramic snake sculpture on a white background. The snake’s body is colored with metallic copper and green colored glaze.

A different angle of the same snake sculpture showing the different colors across the snake’s body.

I just finished some glamor shots of this spring’s sculptures. These two little beasts are each about 4” long. Fired for 50 some hours in my train kiln! They’re all packed up, ready to head to the Seattle Art Fair.

Two wood fired creatures, playing tug of war with a bit of fancy cord.

Another view. They’re simple, stylized, with no facial feature.

This view is the side of the beast that faced the firebox in the kiln. There’s much heavier ash, running in rivulets.

This side is the side away from the flame. The rich red of the clay is more visible.
