In regard to classics, I finally checked out Atari’s Kangaroo. This was a cab that was at our local skating rink, and then I never saw it again growing up. I’d have to get some practice on this one, but it’s solid enough. I like the cabinet, and it’s odd to think this had a Supercade cartoon.

Your instructions to control a kangaroo: you can duck, jump and punch along with movement. The goal is to rescue a baby kangaroo. Ring the bell to revive fruit, and just like your grandparents always told you: ACHIEVE MAXIMUM SCORE BY TAKING FRUIT.

The abilities of a totally normal kangaroo: jump, hop, super leap, duck, punch, rescue and ring bell. I saw a video package one time in which Jeff Hardy sparred with a kangaroo, and it did all of these things. I believe that kangaroo was named after boxing great “Smokin’ Joe Frazier.” Kangaroos are cool.

I had a belated birthday excursion with a friend over the weekend, and I spent a lot of time on Konami’s Nostalgia Op.3. I really enjoyed playing KeyboardMania years ago, so these music styles and the elegant presentation really appeal to me.

Game 78 off the NES shelf for #RandomGameSaturday is Mega Man Not only do I just enjoy Capcom’s Mega Man, this is memorable because this copy was one of my earliest collecting/flea market experiences. This is a super solid game, but for me Capcom kept improving the experience in its sequels.

With how little I paid for this in 2003, I won’t complain one bit. This is a game I keep in a plastic protector (it can be opened, it is not slabbed) so the other sticker areas are on the outside.

The week of JOE is nearly over, but I've made progress in seeing that the character is getting major gains. The roadblock was in finding a new-to-me food item in the game. I had to purposely lose and stall stats to see what its effect would be ... for it to do nothing to my stats. 🙃

THE PARAMETERS OF JOEPREAL, represented by Busujima in SEGA's Zombie Revenge for Dreamcast. JOE is under training and has 985 attack and 696 defense ratings. No stress whatsoever and full energy. Damn, I'm good at this. In one to two days, this VMU gremlin will return to the Zombie Revenge video game to hopefully participate in versus duel battles against the CPU. Yeah, the CPU. Trust me, I would love to play Zombie Revenge with another human, but good luck convincing most people to play this video game with you. It's a GOOD GAME. 100% their loss.

Things accomplished through Wednesday's stream regarding the SEGA Dreamcast VMU download for Zombie Revenge: 1) I finally found the fabled "rare" burger. 2) With this being my second character recently, we realized each character has a "favorite food" that dramatically boosts their stats.

I am holding a SEGA Dreamcast VMU - with all two of my hands, so those are my real thumbs in the foreground. The VMU has the Zombie Revenge mini game installed on it. We're giving digital JoePReal a meal (hey, that rhymes!), which in this case is the fabled "rare food" item: THE BURGER

Digital JoePReal is the character Busujima from Zombie Revenge. Here, Busujima has unhinged his jaw so he can eat a doughnut in one bite. Remember, real bikers don't chew. Since this is a download with minimal data, each food item in this mini-game is pictured as a doughnut when the character goes to eat it. As mentioned in the post, chat and I figured out each character has a specific "favorite food." Normally these food items replenish 10 hunger and boost attack and defense by 2, but if this is the character's favorite food, it instead replenishes 30 hunger and boost the two stats by 10. In this case, Busujima is enjoying a sushi food item. Linda's favorite food is the cake, so we're figuring by the use of the tropes in place here that the dork character Stick Brietling will want the burger. I'm surprised a warm glass of tap water isn't Stick's favorite food, but that doesn't seem to be an item you can pick up in this game.

Gaming things that probably only I find funny: The game over of Mars Matrix on SEGA Dreamcast is so off-theme compared to the rest of the game, it makes me laugh. It has that funky beat and ride, the goofy robot voice and the very abrupt cut. "The battle is over, let's get down for three seconds."

We returned home … to find out our internet is completely dead. This is my punishment for apparently cursing multiple games at the event, which included discovering the Double Dragon GUTS stage. I cannot take credit for the cursed Dance Maniax, though. That machine defies explanation.

Double Dragon V has a character named Blade, but he fights with picks at the end of gauntlets. It also has a character named Icepick that fights with a blade. It's idiotic, but the world building in Double Dragon V makes me think the Double Dragon universe is full of good food.

Game 6 off the 3DO shelf for #RandomGameSaturday is Foes of Ali. Like other EA games on the 3DO, this boxing entry really nails presentation elements, but I recall it being sluggish and the punches not having a lot of impact. This title remains exclusive to the system, so I do want to revisit it.
