Folks, if you are in Akihabara today, get over to BEEP. They are putting out so much high quality "Junk". I bought a supergrafx. I left behind a boxed CD-ROM2. Stacks of Dreamcast games for 200 yen. They were preparing more but I literally do not have time to wait around as I fly back today.

Last (?) curry of the trip - the "European style" katsu curry from the Jinbocho shop called Ethiopia. Looks very simple but the flavor and mouthfeel are amazing, similar to Bondy or other "European" style places. This one's right in Ochanomizu station, in the underground dining area.

Found a junk boxed (!) Twin Famicom with no accessories early last week for 8800 yen. Yesterday I was at BEEP digging through the junk pile and pulled out an AC adapter! Plugged everything in in the hotel room just now and the power came on. I won the Akihabara junk bin lottery

I've been thinking it might be fun to buy a copy of @jmechner.bsky.social's Karateka for the PC-98. I got excited when I saw this one in BEEP in Akihabara... then noticed it was actually sealed (!!!) and even with the favorable exchange rate and no tax, it would have been $750.

Jinbocho adventure! I walked down to Japan's book and curry district tonight and got both! First was a stop at Kitchen Nankai, a place I'd heard about but never gotten to go. Tiny place, line out the door, cash only, small menu, eat and dash, fantastic curry. Totally worth it.

Little hidden surprise in Akihabara - the Geo Mobile that used to be the legendary Media Land now has a floor with just "junk" hardware - no returns but you can test the items out in store if you want. A whole row of boxed Famicoms for 2200 yen each, lots of other potential wins

Well, dang, Final Fantasy Resonance is pretty good so far! The appeal of classic Final Fantasy games isn't just "pixel art," it's a sense of propulsion and streamlined action that's hard to pull off when you're bogged down in lengthy cut scenes and dialogue and overwrought battle animations
