One thing that's been bothering me in the last couple days is I have never seen this level of "we should forgive and forget" "rehabilitation" for any woman doing anything perceived as or actually wrong no matter how small compared to literally having sexually assaulted someone.

We could never get to Trump without George W Bush laying the groundwork. Trump isn’t an aberration, he’s just the latest model of Nixon, Reagan, and Bush.

‘Polarization’ has become the master concept for diagnosing our current democratic crisis. But this is not polarization. It is the radicalization of the political right. By misdiagnosing it, we risk becoming complicit in the crisis. 🧵 Just out in Perspectives on Politics doi.org/10.1017/S153...

being disabled sucks cuz we gotta constantly prove to able bodied people that we cannot do things like they can no matter how "small" the disability is. chronic pain and fatigue especially is just, not treated seriously both by people and the medical system

I still remember the fury and insults and threats I got, in the aftermath of Dobbs, when I tried to convince folks that the fight for abortion rights and the fight for trans rights were the same fight for self-determination and bodily autonomy. I hope folks are ready to believe, now.

"Cognitive surrender" is a fascinating concept to think about the impact of AI as it exists under reactionary tech Preventing people from thinking for themselves and imagining different worlds is a godsend for authoritarians thenextweb.com/news/wharton...

Wharton researchers coined 'cognitive surrender' to describe what happens when people let AI think for them
A Wharton study found people accepted wrong AI answers 80% of the time, as apps like Moot now let five AI personas vote on your life decisions.

It’s actually really good for a society to have a strong cancel culture for even the slightest whiff of eugenics or race science. We should bring that back, stronger.

I think customers should have a reasonable expectation that games are free from generative AI unless clearly stated otherwise so that they can make informed decisions about their purchases, this doesn't seem like a big ask, but gaming CEOs are tripping at the first hurdle.

It’s important to understand “age verification” and “kick the kids off social media” laws as a gift to Big Tech. These policies allow surveillance capitalism to chug along full steam ahead and let Silicon Valley giants off the hook. Instead of regulating their biz model, we just put up age gates

If I could add, kids could also really use more narratives that recognize that the adults around them a fallible. I've run into it a couple of times with my writing where the notes back were that 'this seems kind of irresponsible of (an adult)' 'this seems kind of mean.' And it might be. Let it.

I don’t want this point to be lost in the discourse. Going digital-only means inequity for people who cannot afford internet or constantly purchasing new games. Libraries provide opportunities for people to experience games they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford, and that will be lost.
