I'm sorry if this is obvious but the Tory proposal to exempt family homes completely from IHT will lead to 1] pensioners buying the biggest houses they possibly can 2] pensioners refusing to downsize which can only be bad news for younger families trying to buy family homes

Here is how politics, in most cases, works: Rich and powerful interests, whether in fossil fuels, finance, big tech, media, meat, pharma or foreign governments, make a demand, and use their sophisticated tools to persuade a government to adopt it. The government adopts it. Please read whole🧵

Seems to be a lot of selective memory in UK's right-wing newspapers about schools not closing during the 1976 heatwave. I just checked and, yes, many schools did close early as well as allow parents to "keep their children at home if they wish". This clipping from London Evening News, 29 June 1976

Absolute rubbish. Current arrangement incentivises getting into the top 2, and works in favour of the genuine community clubs against the city-boy funded vanity projects. If you want to change, just scrap play offs, make the team that finishes top champion www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-...

Two-tier policing is real and ever-present. Black and Brown people experience it. Women experience it. Pro-Palestine and green protesters experience it. But the last people who would ever experience it are right-wing white men. They are the people with whom the police instinctively align.

Sadly, there are two aspects to football; on the ball & off the ball. We played well in one aspect, but over the course of that half, our frailties were exposed in the second aspect. Football at the highest levels is decided by split seconds. We’re too often on the receiving end of that.
