If Etihad Airlines was just an innocent business that paid what they thought was fair market value, they would be suing the club for dragging their brand name through the mud, rather than suing Premier League. Nike, Oakley, Trek etc sued Armstrong for reputational damage, not WADA for the ruling!

The idea that the Premier League can’t afford to lose City is genuinely bizarre. For me, they can’t afford to keep them in the league. Their very presence is a blight on the league. I honestly think that if they aren’t expelled, that will be me done with football. That’s how disgusted I am.

Unfortunately, the damage done by City’s owners can’t be undone, but it’s now about rescuing the league itself. Every single season up to this point from when Abu Dhabi took over is now marked with an asterisk. Every single one. It’s just a huge, unmitigated disaster for the Premier League.

When you join the Premier League, you’re joining an exclusive club with its own rules. Every club is different, but they all have in common a membership of this club, & a responsibility towards it. That’s why the idea of acting in “good faith” is prevalent within PL rules. City’s owners shat on it.

The thing is, the “distortion” which came from Man City’s actions is still impacting every club in the Premier League to this day. What came before laid the foundation for what is, & what will be in the future, if sanctions aren’t sufficient. It completely undermines the PL going forward.

When something like these charges are found as guilty (unprecedented on many levels) only an unprecedented sanction can be applied. The damage done by actions a decade & more ago is still being felt by other clubs this football season. It’s a story almost too big to truly appreciate.
