re "Zionism is racism" - it's a cornerstone of British equality law that discrimination need not be intentional for it to be discriminatory I'm not making *legal* claims about the Green Party motion - but a policy that would render the vast majority of Jews as personae non gratae is flatly racist

Looking likely that from tomorrow Green Party policy will be that Israel shouldn’t exist

The BBC seems to think it can’t label Reform, Daniel Thomas, and Tommy Robinson as “far-right” because millions of people support them But strength of support doesn’t make a person or group not far-right, and the BBC should really know that

If you're in government watching criminal-led blackshirt thugs in balaclavas wage war on the RNLI and you're hedging your bets because you're not sure who the majority of the country will side with, why do you even want to be in government? Why would you WANT to lead people you think so little of?

If conference attendees inflicted physical violence on protestors at the Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem, or Green conferences, I suspect it would get far more media coverage than *EXACTLY THAT HAPPENING AT REFORM CONFERENCE* is currently getting

The Conservative MP for Windsor using a word championed by racists to describe people with British citizenship who aren’t, in their eyes, British. Badenoch’s big strategy is to get tactical voting for her party to keep Reform out. What’s the point if it’s the same picture?

The fact that the state has also given 81% of these social tenants born abroad Yookay citizenship (as well as a million quid of lifetime rental subsidy) isn't really the counterpoint you think it is.

Hi BBC News Just to make you aware that Nigel Farage is not at present an MP. He voluntarily resigned that post because his advisers wrongly thought it would get him out of an investigation into financial wrongdoing. He’s now fighting a man dressed as a bin in order to reverse course Thanks

I can attest that throughout the Manchester mayoral campaign only Labour visibly did any actual campaigning, and even that was almost entirely via social media and web ads. I was never leafleted or canvassed by anyone, there have been no marquees in the street, and no posters in windows

Being a Manchester resident and a Burnham supporter since he was first elected mayor I already knew how effective his comms and social media operation is. But it is still very striking to see the contrast with Keir Starmer’s, especially as the rest of the country notices the difference too

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

Caveat that my view is almost certainly coloured by being Manchester through and through, but it really does feel that Andy Burnham is going to give people hope that the future will get better. We’ve had 18 years of “It’s going to be shit”, it’s about time we had a leader with some fucking optimism

Have the British public always been so self centred? I’m staggered by how many people I’ve seen saying ‘I don’t use buses so what good is that?’ Or ‘pubs aren’t for me so who cares?’ Millions of people do use each and they are both pretty vital for our economy and society

Matt @mattdean94.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

London had a good run as the capital. 1066-2026. But, like Winchester before it, it must eventually surrender the crown. The age of London is over. The time of Manchester has come (I can only assume this is Burnham’s ultimate goal, given *gestures at everything since Makerfield*)
