Oh god. Yeah, I've got one like that. His compliance is fine... When he actually eats. He went through a spate of refusing EVERYTHING for so long he made himself iller, and then immediately started wolfing everything after a visit to the vet who was concerned about him not eating. Fine now, the sod.

are plenty of reason to say that that variability is meaningful - e.g. variance in brain structure across individuals etc. but people seem to get too freaked out by it IMO. I know i've made the same argument in the past, but over time I just realized, like, so what? the mean is the mean 2/2

so this comes up a lot in neuroscience. e.g. an ERP is the mean over trials, but you'd often be hard pushed to see a signal that looks much like the mean on each individual trial. or with any kind of spatial map, no individual participant looks exactly like the mean map. and the thing is there 1/x
