Note here how “virtue signalling” means “doing anything about these war crimes beyond either saying they’re great, or doing nothing”. And up until about six weeks ago, these were the only acceptable responses in British politics. They still would be, if those Mandelson emails hadn’t surfaced.

You should understand this stuff not as analysis of public opinion - since when did the lads give a fuck about that? - and not even as threats. These are promises: we, the press, are now going to fuck you up, and we won’t stop screaming until your lives are utterly miserable.

It really is not much more complex than: America is 100% behind Israel destroying the Palestinians, and that means our leaders are also behind it, which means the entire press pack is behind it, and they pretend together that it’s insane to say anything about resisting it.

I really do not know how we expect the public in Britain to respond when their leaders line up behind a genocidal racist regime and then insist that actually, it is crazy and hateful to be upset about the massacre and destruction. *No wonder* people are going tonto mental about it.

Again, an *immediate* reaction from the cops and a forensic investigation by the EHRC would be quite clarifying here. Presumably this time with lots of shrieking about “Islamist infiltration” and so on, because a lot of important people have spotted they can just say what they mean quite openly now.

EXCLUSIVE: More than a dozen Labour MPs have reported the Green party to Sussex Police and the EHRC over its 'Zionism is racism' policy, The Spectator can reveal.
Zack Polanski's party was plunged deeper into crisis this afternoon after politicians, led by former Home Office minister Mike Tapp, urged police in Brighton to examine whether events at the Green conference may have crossed into criminally actionable racial or religious hatred against Jewish people.

Like, a society where 45% are willing to crawl over broken glass to put a fascist in power and another 45% willing to do the exact same to prevent it just seems like an utterly ungovernable society. And I don't just mean for democracy, I mean for a fascist regime as well.

That is a genuine purity test: a demand that you toe the line or be deemed beyond the pale. It's also important as a key example of a shift over time. Political purity tests were originally about drawing factional lines between or within parties that the media merely reported on.

Again, notice how Tony Blair felt secure telling millions of people to fuck off over the Iraq War, because this system was broadly working and even improving. These people have presided over 25 years of escalating disasters, so one guy shouting “this is bullshit!” is intolerable to them.

It seems unlikely that a BBC editor who e.g. made a film that “accidentally” accused Tory staff of screaming “Hitler was right” at colleagues and later quietly clarified this wasn’t correct, in an election year, would ever work in current affairs again.

I try not to use the term when others are more appropriate, but this is just gaslighting. Most of Gaza is destroyed to bulldozed rubble and nobody who matters is even speaking up about it, because they know what would happen to them and their careers if they do.
The Green Party's decision to equate Zionism with racism is shameful. Jewish self-determination is not racism. We can challenge the Israeli government and defend Palestinian rights without denying that principle.

Adam Wagner KC, the barrister who led a case which concluded that Jeremy Corbyn's Labour broke equalities laws over antisemitism, said that such a case would have a good chance of success.
"I think there is a strong risk that the motion as passed contravenes the Equality Act 2010, which applies to political parties, as it will discriminate against and harass people who hold Zionist beliefs and Jewish people more generally.," he said.
"Zionism, defined in the broad sense of supporting the establishment, development, and protection of a Jewish nation state in its ancestral homeland, the land of Israel, is likely to be a protected belief under the Equality Act 2010."
He said there was a strong risk that the policy, especially if it resulted in disciplinary action, "will create an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or offensive environment for both Zionists and Jewish people therefore harassing them".

A British counter disinformation centre is long overdue, and very welcome.
For too long,
the approach of successive
governments to disinformation has been disjointed and without organisation, allowing states like Russia to amplify lies about this country, to sow division and stoke tensions. This new National Centre for Information Defence is an opportunity to finally take on this very serious threat."
The Foreign Affairs Committee recommended exactly this in March. We were extremely worried about what seemed to be a complacency of the British establishment at the disinformation being promoted from abroad, particularly from Russia. We thought the response from Whitehall had essentially been 'talk to the hand because the face ain't listening, but it seems we were wrong. I'm absolutely delighted.
