Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

All I want in life is enough money to post a hearty "fuck you" on LinkedIn to the company that asked me to spend Thanksgiving weekend recording a video interview with an AI after 14.5 years in my industry.

Two options, both bad: 1. GAC does not consider the US a source of disinformation. GAC is not living in reality. 2. GAC does consider the US a source of disinformation but has to lie about that for whatever reason.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) claims it dropped out of #Disinfo2026 "following changes to the framing of several panel discussions." GAC was scheduled to chair my panel today on disinformation in the Arctic. But, our panel description hasn't changed since June...! Receipts in the next post below.

4 What does the Carney government‘s inability to withstand pressure over a few panels at a conference tell us about its willingness to actually regulate US tech companies, or to pursue “digital sovereignty”? Does Mark Carney’s digital sovereignty include predatory and monopolistic US corporations?

3 All signs point to Canada withdrawing from the conference due to US pressure. Even in normal times, the US complains about a lot of stuff. What is the Carney government’s threshold for deciding when to appease Trump? After almost two years, and contra the speeches, it seems to be very low.

Lesson 1: If want to start replacing US software, start. Lesson 2: Governments can replace proprietary US software. But first they have to see it as a problem. I'm not convinced the Carney government sees MS dependence as a security or financial risk (it's both). Political will is paramount.

I have unfortunately experienced a good use case for copilot. I'm doing a business process analysis, where dates and issues are stored in monthly email chains. Copilot was occasionally very frustrating but overall faster and less frustrating than trying to manually extract the data myself.

Every AI/HCI paper I review now just sounds like this.
Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.

Here’s the monthly data with a 12-month trailing average, so we don’t “look ahead” of the time series. We can see that visits from Canada are substantially down. Like, a *lot*. And if we looked at the French series by itself we’d see something too. But it’s not on the scale of Covid. Yet.
Smoothed monthly graph shows Canada has dropped in visits substantially, but not to the extent we saw in Covid

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

I should also add that whether this is a valuable exercise to a particular business depends on the business' operating model and industry. I hate silly inefficient business processes because of how my brain works, but there's a cost to addressing them that may not always be worth it.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Pals I see you sharing links to London Daily & need you to know it's AI bullshit. The Louise Michel is real, Banksy really funded it, but that started in 2020 & the LD link people are sharing is timestamped to today but written as if it's 2020 & elides all the actual journalism about it.
Screenshot reads as follows:

Welcome to London Daily, an innovative and unique news experiment driven by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Our AI system conducts extensive research and fact-checking, presenting a non-biased and diverse perspective on each topic. It meticulously filters out biased or manipulated content, offering you factual summaries essential for your knowledge as an informed citizen.

Our aim is not to replace mainstream media but to provide you with succinct summaries of key headlines, encouraging you to explore these stories in greater depth through your favorite mainstream news sources.

As a privately funded, non-profit initiative, our mission is to provide a concise and comprehensive overview of current events as part of a broader project to enhance fact-checking and AI journalism for journalists and publishers worldwide.

We are building a tool that will help professional journalists and traditional mainstream news outlets enhance their news delivery, boost their readership, ease their workload, and lower their costs while increasing their productivity—all aimed at improving content reliability and readability.
