It would be good to hear some specific stuff, I naturally assume that politicians "looking for efficiencies" are just unwilling to raise taxes and expect the province to bail them out. I am willing to learn though.

I ride through there three times a week and I do think something of this nature could help with visibility for North-bound traffic on the MUP, the execution leaves a lot to be desired of course. My approach has been to try to ring my bell while in the tunnel but I don't know if that actually helps.

QUESTION: We often talk a lot about cities that are doing great things that inspire us, and I usually don’t spend much time bashing all the OTHER cities even when they deserve it. But there are special cities that SHOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER than they are. Ottawa’s an example for me. What’s yours?

Jeff is consistently a part of the 9 or so councillors that have voted against Sutcliffe and Watson’s worst excesses. His being a part of past councils doesn’t strike me as disqualifying given that track record. No one is perfect but he’s a great alternative to the status quo.

Point #3 in Sutcliffe's 48 point plan to improve traffic flow: "Ensure pathways, multi-use pathways (MUPs), and cycling infrastructure (including bike lanes) are well maintained, swept and not unnecessarily impacted by nearby construction." Um, shouldn't the city be doing all those things already?

Ottawa's roads are falling apart because car dependent sprawl is incapable of providing a tax base to pay to maintain itself. Lansdowne is a waste but the issues this city has are way more systemic than one bad decision.

I (quickly) threw the city's road resurfacing dataset into an interactive webmap. This is the data that the city used for the 2025 Asset Management Plan. The map shows all the roads that need to be resurfaced in the next 10 years, most are already overdue for resurfacing according to the city.

My take is that everything in this city is overdue and over budget because the lowest bidders we constantly select can't actually do the work in the time frame or at the cost that they propose and that greater scrutiny needs to be place on bidders up front 🤷
