I just saw someone admonishing someone trans to shut up about trans rights because there are concentration camps in the US, and you know who I see overwhelmingly and disproportionately on the front lines standing up against concentration camps? Trans people.

1. Biden got a shocking amount of progressive policy through. 2. Almost no one, even progressives, realized. 3. The Biden admin - & Dems in general - are terrible at communicating their wins. 4. Trump et al have been able to undo a lot of those wins, partially because no one knows they're there.

I don’t care whether this actually happened or not. I want it to be true.
Social media screenshot, in theory:

@whyuhhhhhhhhhh
So last week, I noticed my coworker kept saying weird phrases in meetings. Stuff like:
"We'll take this to the synergy zone."
"Let's triangle back on that."
"Put that in the idea fridge."

No one reacted. Everyone just nodded like it was normal. I figured it was some corporate lingo I missed.

Day two, I hear: "We'll verticalize that bandwidth."

I write it down to Google later. Nothing.

By day three, I'm starting to use them, too. "Yeah, we should put that in the idea fridge." People nodded. I felt included.

Friday rolls around. He pulls me aside and goes:
"I've been making them all up. No one knows what they mean."

HE GOT THE ENTIRE TEAM SAYING NONSENSE. Even the manager threw out "triangle back" in a call.

Now the whole office is trapped in fake jargon with no way out.

I respect it. I fear it.

holy moly @hausofdecline.bsky.social in @inthesetimes.com ???
Photo of a page from the July issue of In These Times, depicting a six-panel comic from Haus of Decline.

Panel 1: A woman standing and smiling in front of a chart. “THE ADVENTURES OF BLOODLESS QUANT”
Panel 2: Another woman pleads to Bloodless Quant: “Bloodless Quant, please help! I can’t afford to feed my family!”
Panel 3: BQ replies, “That’s ludicrous. The stock market is at an all-time high”
Panel 4: The woman says “But groceries are—“ but BQ cheerfully interjects, “You shouldn’t make statements if you don’t have economic literacy!”
Panel 5: BQ holds up a chart with a line rocketing upward, saying “Here’s a chart explaining why your fears are unfounded”
Panel 6: A boy asks the woman, “What are we having for dinner tonight?” The woman dejectedly stirs a pot with the chart in it. “Chart,” she replies.

Crucial, underrated distinction,. the blurring of which is near the center of our big problem: "I think you should" ≠ "you must, and the state will force you to" It's the same thing that treats "I think that's a slur, stop saying it" as equivalent or even worse than forceful government censorship.
