Let's stop using anodyne labels like "the immigration debate" or "controversy over migrants" and start referring to things accurately. "Expelling children who, by law, are entitled to remain in the country" or "imprisoning toddlers in concentration camps" or "pogrom"

I finally got into the dahlia garden to dead head and tie up some plants. Lots of nice blooms opening which is great, but then I realized this beauty (which I’d spotted in passing before but didn’t recognize) is a seedling!! I’m so excited! 🌱
A beautiful informal decorative dahlia bloom. The petals are pale pink on the front and darker pink on the reverse, so bloom has an ombré effect of getting darker toward the center — except then there’s a cream center!

Fascist ideology is inherently self-defeating and ass-backwards. Just look at the MAGA ethnic cleansing campaign. Out of pure racist hatred, the USA is kidnapping random hardworking, tax-paying, society-contributing innocents off the street and *paying* foreign authoritarians to torture them.

My oldest, extremely agreeable, age 4.5: (deeply aggrieved voice) “MAMA. Why don’t I have a rainbow blanket??” Me, super confused: “idk buddy, what does a rainbow blanket look like?” Meeting their demands is probably the highest form of art for us craftspeople.
A 5yo holds up the rainbow blanket he demanded. It’s 3’ square, with a big arched rainbow and blue sky background and some stylized grass at the bottom, and a green border, matching the 5yo’s drawing of “what a rainbow blanket looks like”. The blanket was designed and knit to his specifications.

I discovered a secret button just in front of this goofball’s right ear that, when touched, causes him to squish up just that side of his face (while licking his nose and sneezing with pleasure). He already thinks he looks cute when he shows people his teeth (“smarls”), this is absurd.
A red lab sitting on the floor looking up at the camera with the right side of his face all scrunched up and his right upper canine entirely visible; a human hand is on top of his head and pointer finger is scritching just in front of his right ear. Same goofball dog as the first picture but now his big pink tongue is also out of his mouth and nearly covering his nose. Right canine still visible!

Vax decisions require 3 calculations: 1) risk of jab; 2) risk of infection; 3) likelihood of infection. 1 for most people is very low, allergies (eggs etc) aside. Most vax decisions pretend to be based on 1vs2 but are actually based on 3. But when vax rates drop? You need to actually consider 2.

Dogs! I have at least three of them, and they are variably separable, and all ridiculous and delightful.
A black lab (Gwyllgi) and red lab (Myrddin) sitting so nicely for a hot second. Gwyllgi is grinning like the goofy dog he is. A very elegant-appearing seal point cat is sitting in an Ikea cat box situation, a pale teal box with a big circle opening and a pillow inside with a teal cover with white spots. The cat’s big black ears are very focused on the photographer. Except this is, in all seriousness, A DOG.

Ok so. It’s Blueberry Season, and that’s my fav fruit, and I have to share The Very Best Blueberry Muffin Recipe Ever For Real I Am So Serious. Apologies to the Boston Globe and Jordan Marsh, but my mom’s edit is gospel.
Article from the Boston Globe by Marian Burros: The Battle Over Blueberry Muffins.
Recipe (Jordan Marsh’s Blueberry Muffins, significantly adapted by my mom):
Prep: 10’
Bake: 30’
Ingredients:
- 1/2 c butter
- 1/2 c sugar (100g) [1 1/4 c + 3T in original]
- 2 eggs
- 2 c flour (250g AP)
- 1/2 t salt (optional)
- 2 t baking powder
- 1/2 c milk
- 2 c blueberries, picked over

1. Cream butter and sugar until light
2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
3. Sift together dry ingredients, add to butter alternately with the milk
4. Crush 1/2 c blueberries with a fork, mix into batter. Fold in remaining whole berries
5. Grease 12 muffin cups, fill with batter. Bake 375F 30’
6. Cool 30’ before removing. Store uncovered, or muffins will be too moist the second day, if they last that long.
Yield: 12 muffins

Alfred Nobel established the Nobel Prize after wake up call: newspapers mistakenly published his obituary when his brother died & what he read as his legacy horrified him speaking ill (factually) of the dead is literally the most effective way to curb living racist & Nazi public figures/politicians
There is a well-known story about the origin of the Nobel Prize, although historians have been unable to verify it, and some dismiss the story as a myth.[26] In 1888, the death of his brother Ludvig supposedly caused several newspapers to publish obituaries of Alfred in error. One French newspaper[which?] condemned him for his invention of military explosives—in many versions of the story, dynamite is quoted, although this was mainly used for civilian applications—and this is said to have brought about his decision to leave a better legacy after his death.[6] The obituary supposedly stated, Le marchand de la mort est mort ("The merchant of death is dead"),[6] and according to the myth went on to say, "Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday."[27] Nobel read the obituary and was appalled at the idea that he would be remembered in this way. His decision to posthumously donate the majority of his wealth to found the Nobel Prize has been credited to him wanting to leave behind a better legacy.[28][6] However, it has been questioned whether or not the obituary in question actually existed.[28] An actual obituary (pictured) stated "A man who can only with the utmost difficulty be considered a benefactor of mankind has died yesterday at Cannes. It is Mr. Nobel, inventor of dynamite. Mr. Nobel was Swedish." It was published on the first page of the Figaro on the 15th of April 1888 and retracted the next day.
