I remember my father telling me how anti trust laws worked as a kid. Something like "Well son, we have laws where one electric company can't just buy all the OTHER electric companies. Then they could just charge whatever they want because there'd be no competition." We were a very optimistic people.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

When I was 7, I slept at a friend's house. Her dad was watching The Mummy in his room and I passed the open door during the scarab scene. Was convinced the entire film was TERRIFYING until college. I did not have that movie as my bisexual awakening unlike most of my 90s peers.

hot take: covid isn't what made fandoms suck lmao it was very specifically the rise of antis in the mid 2010s-onwards. notably it was the then-new v0ltron show-- i did not personally watch it, but the damage that show + that one ship did to the fandom ecosystem is seemingly permanent.

My hot take is that fandoms have always been a majority of nice people with a subset of absolutely rancid, judgemental arseholes that never got bigger, just louder, but because platforms learned that arguments drive engagement and therefore you see more ads, they tailored algorithms towards that
