I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

They straight up announced that they don't consider the Sequel Trilogy (which prominently feature women and people of colour in lead roles) to be "Core" Star Wars films. This isn't really news to anyone paying attention but it's certainly a case of saying the quiet part out loud.

It's interesting to me that the American authors conservatives deem acceptable/non-woke/masculine--your Steinbecks, Cormac McCarthys, Faulkners, Hemingways etc--all identify brutality as the fundamental language and original sin of the United States. There's nothing very patriotic about their work.

Like, oh, you guys had real urban planning? And now you don’t have a city that’s mostly made up of single family dwellings? And you have mid-rise buildings that were deliberately built to house families, not just rundown mansions carved up into crappy units and/or steel and glass high rises? WILD.

It’s truly wild going to Montreal and seeing all these purpose-built 3, 4, and 5 floor apartment buildings that are, like … meant to be apartments? Coming from Toronto where bylaws banned the construction of apartment buildings (except on certain streets) for many years, it’s such a revelation.
