I know it’s easier said than done to not stress too much right now, but please keep in mind all the setbacks we’re going to face in terms of healthcare, and how damaging for your health a dysregulated nervous system can be. Please do everything you can to prioritize your wellbeing, health, & peace!

Some helpful info to have should you encounter a, ahem, roman saluter
Image titled 'Proper Fist Alignment is an Absolute Must!' from the Georgia Karate Academy and American JKA Karate Association. The image shows multiple diagrams of fists with text explanations for proper and improper fist alignment.

- Top-left image: 'Good alignment with the contact area of the knuckles and the elbow will properly generate a straight line of force and power transmission.'
- Top-center image: 'Completely tuck the thumb at the base of the clinched fist to protect it.'
- Top-right image: 'Use only the two major knuckles closest to the hand for the fit of the two lower fingers to strike with.'
- Middle-left image: 'Incorrect alignment of wrist with contact area of knuckles and fist will cause injury and lack of force.'
- Middle-center image: 'Do not wrap the thumb inside of the fist. It will end up in pain with this hit!'
- Middle-right image: 'Do not bend the wrist. This will improperly align the direction of force and may cause serious wrist fracture or injury.'
- Bottom-left image: 'Good alignment of wrist with contact area of knuckles and fist for forceful striking.'
- Bottom-center image: 'Clinch the fist completely to have zero air pockets between the fold of the fingers and the palm.'
- Bottom-right image: 'The contact surface area of the straight fist is to be the first and second knuckles, no more, no less.'

Each point includes corresponding illustrations of correct or incorrect fist positions, marked with checkmarks or Xs.

- I’d argue even moreso than just not adding captions in the first place. This specifically excludes people that are deaf, hard of hearing, have audio processing issues, etc. from accessing your content and I imagine it’s extremely confusing to see.

Madison Rodriguez @maddylelu.bsky.social · 21/01/2025
Yes, it’s very hard to organize and educate when we’re being censored on social media, but no, IT IS NOT OK to misuse the captions feature to circumvent that. It makes your content explicitly inaccessible to people that rely on accurate captions -

Hey diva 💕 Please remember to at least take a break from doomscrolling today to take care of yourself. Hydrate, eat, take your meds. It’s natural to feel radicalized more than ever right now, but you can’t pour from an empty cup, and you certainly can’t start a revolution without fueling your body.

A meme made from two screenshots from Shrek 2. The screenshot on top has Shrek looking annoyed saying, as made clear by the caption, "could you please stop". Then, in the next screenshot the camera has panned over and we can see Shrek is yelling at donkey. The caption continues "FOR FIVE MINUTES". For this meme, Donkey is covered by a screenshot of 3 missed calls from a contact saved as "TriHealth (Medical Bills)". The meme is portraying annoyance at repeated calls from a medical group regarding medical bills.

-Doesn’t confirm anything but implies that the plot point has indeed been changed from Nessa being granted the ability to walk, so we shall see.

I saw a lot of their commentary on the importance of casting a real wheelchair user but haven’t seen anything about them saying they’ll use CGI or exactly how this will be handled in part 2 so I would def love to see a source on that! The closest I’ve seen is this quote from Marissa Bode which-
A screenshotted paragraph from an article. The text says the following:

Although Bode can’t say much about what will happen in Wicked Part 2, which comes out in November 2025, she does say that “there will be movie magic and just magic in general, but just not in the way that I think a lot of people think it might be. There have been changes that I think are great in terms of representation in a healthy way, but I don’t think I can say more than that.”

Madison Rodriguez @maddylelu.bsky.social · 07/12/2024
Oh I haven’t seen that! Where did they say that?

Unfortunately, people with disabilities were overlooked in that regard in the original show, and I think it makes sense for a modern-day production to have some revisions in that area on a show that premiered over 20 years ago.

While there’s a ton I could say on that, I think this is enough: Is Elphaba actually de-greenified in the story? Why not? She isn’t, because it would negate the message and major themes of the story.

Madison Rodriguez @maddylelu.bsky.social · 06/12/2024
I’ve seen a lot of discourse on whether Nessarose will gain the ability to walk in #Wicked: Part 2, and whether or not that would be problematic. One thing I’ve seen multiple times is people comparing Nessa being granted the ability to walk with Elphaba’s potential “de-greenifying” by the wizard.

PLEASE run for your library board. A lot of bad actors are on library boards because they seek to control and diminish the library, not support it. Some boards refuse to hire qualified librarians and seek to deprofessionalize the field. It won’t change unless you join!

All these years, I thought all or most primaries would be as unhelpful as the one I was seeing; I was doing so much extra work managing my specialists and medications. I’m so happy this new doctor is going to take a little bit of that responsibility off my plate by helping with that!

Had my new patient appt with a new PCP today and she’s amazing. I didn’t realize how helpful a good primary can actually be!!! I haven’t left a doctor’s visit feeling this good in a long time, if ever

As a person who can be forgetful but who also wants to uphold disability justice whenever I can, I wanted to share how you can change your settings so that Bluesky won’t allow you to post until all your images have alt text. Alt text doesn’t have to be a big ordeal!
image shows the accessibility settings menu for bluesky, where one can toggle on or off different settings, including to make it mandatory to add alt text to images.

The discourse over twitter & leaving vs staying is getting truly goofy in some directions. Twitter is not a *place* ffs. Twitter without the people is nothing. We have 100% of the power over whether twitter has value or not. When we leave, we're not ceding ground? We're taking the ground with us.

PSA for newbies: Please include ALT text on your images. This is an inclusive space for blind and visually impaired people. Don't arrive late to the party and ignore a bunch of people. Also, please share this skeet, rather than liking it, to ensure the message gets delivered. Thanks!

I should have added: If you need help remembering to write alt text, Bluesky has a reminder function in Settings. You do need to turn it on to use it, but many folks say it helps.

Incidentally, all of what I've explained above is why a. AI alt text will not save us. b. Copy/pasting the same alt text for an image every time you use it with no edits is rarely appropriate. c. Storing a single alt text option in an image's metadata is unhelpful.

People stress me out with how much they misunderstand "alt text is contextual". It doesn't mean you put the context of the image in the alt text. It doesn't mean you skimp on the alt text, either. It means the alt text is going to change depending on where and why you post the image.

If you're seeing encouragement/demands to do alt text and you're overwhelmed or confused about how to do it and you're worried you're going to do it wrong... this thread is for you. First: prompt questions to get you started.

Please don't. "Alt" is a 30-year-old HTML attribute that has a very specific use and it's not "adding extra information for the fun of people who don't need alt text". Stick to what alt text is for.
