What I desperately needed to hear when I was diagnosed with #ME was 1. It’s real 2. It’s not your fault It would have been wonderful to also know that there was a free National Care Programme in place that understood the needs of a #pwME. People refuse to accept they could get ill at any time.

Can’t pensioners, like me, understand that it’s very likely that they will need decent social care in the future? Families, however kind, often can’t offer the care needed in later life or during illness or have to give up their jobs, the new national care service is financially and morally sound.

1/ People keep saying AI is inevitable. History disagrees. Plenty of technologies were called unstoppable, and societies stopped them or shrank them down to a niche. A thread 🧵
evitable
adjective
uk /ˈev.ɪ.tə.bəl/ us /ˈev.ə.t̬ə.bəl/

able to be avoided or prevented:
He believes that world war is evitable.
Inevitable suffering due to persecution is to be distinguished from evitable sickness.

Because of the stigma and disbelief around #ME people with other health problems, not connected to ME, daren’t go to their Drs or A&E because they would not be treated properly by the NHS. Someone I know is trying to deal with a broken hip at home as they’re too ill for hospital. Dangerous problem

The Bill that was brought to us today was not safe.  If it had passed as it was, vulnerable people would have been at very real risk of coercion into assisted dying or out of fear of being a burden.   We need to prioritise ensuring equal access to our world class palliative care across the country.

Is it just me or do other #ME people feel that it’s still just a guessing game. Is it this? Is it that? Might this help? Might that? Patients generously share their experiences but it always ends up with “we’re all different.” Most illnesses have a rock of certainty and support beneath them 😕

Until it is absolutely mandatory for all health care providers, including carers,to be educated in severe #ME to be able to recognise it, then for all NHS trusts to implement safe beds, patients will continue to suffer and die with no redress for those who chose ignorance.

I would argue that the PACE trial’s initially published results are still damaging the perception of #ME despite the subsequent findings that the results are questionable due to methodological weaknesses in the study design. The Lancet’s editor defended the trial. That sticks.
