Role of geometry in shaping tissues. Multiple factors, including cell shape (top left), boundary constraints (top right), topological inputs (bottom left) including from different cell alignment defects (±1/2) and biophysical factors (bottom right) impact how the final tissue form emerges (centre). Centre shows images of a 48 h neuruloid (left; magenta, DAPI; green, actin) and a young Arabidopsis flower (right) treated with oryzalin (depolymerised microtubules) thus showing isotropic growth, but no defect in patterning (organs are still initiated in the right position).
