Andy Burnham announces end of triple-lock on the state pension from 2030. It will be replaced by double-lock, slower growth in state pension. Full state pension is already less than 50%of the minimum wage. Poverty awaits future retirees. £500bn of taxes not collected by HMRC since 2010.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

As a child of a survivor of these hellish places called residential school, I can tell you with everything in me that the children who survived told the truth. Everything they said and what they didn't say, happened. We lived with the shell of the humans who came back. We know what they experienced.

Only a brief biography on The Bingley Byron survives, but we’ve gathered a cast of poets, actors, artists, bellringers, historians, enthusiasts and a direct descendant – to return to the poems that Nicholson did write down, and the places he lived and died, to unearth his chaotic, charismatic story.

Also known as The Orpheus of Bradford and The Airedale Poet, John Nicholson was a Methodist preacher and a tormented drinker, a rambler on Rombald’s Moor and a champion of industry, a conservative and a reformer, a woolsorter and a classically-inclined poet.

William's original Latin text has apparently been lost so this translation, done by his grandson Henry Taswell in 1760, is the only remaining manuscript version of this fascinating work. The text was later published by the Camden Society in 1852 due to its cultural significance.

He writes about going to St Paul's Cathedral the day after the fire and seeing metal all over the floor from the melted bells. He describes ‘standing on ground so hot as almost to scorch my shoes’. He does also admit to loading his ‘pockets with several pieces of bell metal’ as souvenirs.

London's burning, London's burning 🔥 Today marks the 360th anniversary of the Great Fire of London. William Taswell (1651-1682) was a schoolboy witness to both the 1665 Plague of London and the 1666 Great Fire of London. In our collections we have his firsthand account of these historic events.
