Nothing sweeter than having a couple of pints that you grew the hops for @nathbrudenell.bsky.social - love CoHoperative growing! Local hops, local brewery (Anthology), lush!

Our talk was very well received, lots of enthusiasm for research on Leeds tokens (which is overlooked) and offers of help! The generosity of others was remarkable, not only did I get my personal 'dog taggy bag' but I got armfuls of journals, books, offers for the uni collection and EXCEPTIONAL MERCH

Stand out talks during Token Congress included one on physical bitcoins and one on elephant tokens!

Sadly not in the Leeds University collection is this one issued by Grace Brischo on 1650 - she and three others all issued tokens with the same hanging fleece that is on the Leeds Coat of Arms today! www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

In fact, the same pub was excavated a few years ago by West Yorkshire Archaeology Service (📸 📸) & hundreds of 19th century beer bottles were found! You can see @thetetley.bsky.social in the background!

Anyway, our @lulgalleries.bsky.social volunteers were giving a presentation on their big cataloguing project and research into 17th-century Leeds tokens!!! Here's the crew of Emma, Addy, Matt and myself! They've catalogued 500+ tokens from across the country ...

But the society also covers paranumismatica which are "a whole range of coin-like objects ... consisting of Tokens, Tickets, Passes, Jetons and Medallions" This also includes dog tags (the woofing kind) & my task for next Congress is to tackle this group of metal-detected ones 🐕

What is a token, you may ask? Well they are "a coin or similar object which is issued for use in place of regular or official coinage" ... thetokensociety.org.uk E.g. tokens like this dazzling Pontefract one were used to fill the gap in small change in the mid-1600s (note the woman issuer!)

Yes, that *is* a lobster - which was the address "the lobster, at the maypole, on the strand" 🦞 A very happy day with staff and volunteers @lulgalleries.bsky.social reorganising approx 1700 trade tokens from 17th century.

Yes we used casts of hands as mounts for coins inspired by Who Am I To You? @lulgalleries.bsky.social exhibition ... I think they help people understand scale (tiny!) of these coins, as well as imply that palm to palm movement of spending or saving money!

"Spotlight on 'Stycas'" - the early medieval coinage display you never knew you needed is up at Yorkshire Museum! You can pop in to the foyer for free & see some highlights from my @uoyarchaeology.bsky.social PhD for the next year! Mega thanks to the @yorkmuseumstrust.bsky.social team!

In Barcelona, my hotel has a copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the bedside. Is this a Catalan thing? I feel like if a few more places in the UK did this, we wouldn't be in such a pickle.

If you're not a wheelchair user, or used to being around people who use them, it's so easy to not notice what might be a hazard or what might be confusing, but these could be simple additions! We did love the map of other sites with @changingplacesuk.bsky.social toilets & the invite for feedback

Please take a look at this curb to the Walled Garden - the welcome assistant said was accessible, but the left hand side was too much for the wheelchair & mum almost tipped out! Some kind of little ramp would be so helpful! @nationaltrust.org.uk

Lucy @lucymoore.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
... but we have two big pieces of feedback! Please put signs out showing the accessible route up to the parterre - we got confused several times (pictured), which drained the wheelchair battery and our energy! @nationaltrust.org.uk
