I know Canadians want to feel safe. I get it. But imagine if any other prime minister kept introducing laws that said "I and my minister get to decide what laws apply, when, and we get to unilaterally and retroactively remove conditions on multi-billion-dollar projects."

I don’t know if I’d say the same for the changes to environmental regulations. Among other issues, the prospect of allowing construction on some projects to begin before approvals have been granted seems like it would make it extremely unpalatable to then not grant them.

Let me tell you a story about how top-end menswear retail transformed over the last hundred years. 🧵
Fiorinamarietta on Threads writes: "The death of department stores as an EXPERIENCE needs to be studied. You used to be able to buy a dress, have lunch, get your hair done, smell every perfume in existence and leave carrying beautifully wrapped boxes. Shopping used to be an event."

Mark Carney has decided humanity's future is not as important as the oil industry's current profits. It's as simple as that. He's not a complete fool, he knows what's coming if we don't decarbonize as quickly as possible, and he's rejected that path in favour of a decade of high oil revenues.

Did you know the world’s first arcade game was at the CNE in 1950? Created by engineer Josef Kates, Bertie the Brain was a computer that played tic-tac-toe with visitors, developed while Kates also worked on the University of Toronto Electronic Computer (UTEC), one of the world's first computers.
Three people stand by the control panel of a computer with nine screens, designed to play tic-tac-toe with visitors. It is titled Bertie the Brain / The Electronic Wonder by Rogers Majestic. Photograph commissioned by Time Magazine. Series 975, File 673, Item 2.
