Opened in 1999, the Toronto Music Garden is a fascinating waterfront space inspired by the music of Bach, in collaboration with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Each dance movement within Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello corresponds to a different section in the garden.

Today is Glenn Gould Day, celebrating one of the most famous classical pianists of the 20th century. He's photographed here around the time of his revolutionary 1955 recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, which brought him international recognition and remains closely associated with his career.

On Saturday, former Canadian Boxing Heavyweight Champion, George Chuvalo died. Famous for his two bouts against Muhammed Ali, Chuvalo was never knocked down in any of his 93 fights. The image is of a young Chuvalo, possibly taken in 1955, a year before he turned professional at the age of 18.

Wandering through the TD Centre courtyard downtown leds you to "The Pasture". These seven life-sized bronze cows have been resting in the field among the skyscraper complex since 1985, created by Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard.

Double take... In 1937, The Globe and Mail held a “movie doubles” contest at the CNE, with fourteen categories including Ginger Rogers, Joan Crawford, and Claudette Colbert. Each category was a chance to win $100, with the winner from each round competing in a grand final for $600.

The first Toronto Star’s Lake Ontario Dog Derby was held at the CNE regatta course Sept 5-6, 1933. Over 150 dogs entered. Timmy, a Sheppard, won completing the 400-metre course in under 6 mins. What started as an amusing idea in the Star became reality with $500 for trophies and cash prizes. #CNE

A 1939 proposal for the Manufacturers’ Building in the CNE grounds with a complete false façade — a less expensive method of modernizing an exterior. The original 1902 G.W. Gouinlock building was lost to a fire in 1961, and the site is now home to the Better Living Centre. ow.ly/VWJi50ZGFM1

The Shell Oil Tower, later the Bulova Tower, was a modern landmark designed by Toronto architect George Robb, which stood as a prominent structure in the CNE grounds from 1955-1985. Its demolition sparked a broader discussion in the city around preservation of Toronto's modernist architecture.
