New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

It is extremely important that Labour understands that the movement of voters between Lab and Ref was not the crucial factor, it was consolidation of the anti-Ref vote and Lab voters turning out in droves. Otherwise Burnham will make the same mistakes as Starmer in targeting only one set of voters.

I feel like I'm going mad: Henry Nowak's killer has been sentenced to life in prison with a 21-year minimum. The whole process took less than six months. There were grave errors on the night. But how does this possibly evidence two-tier justice? www.thenewworld.co.uk/james-ball-o...
This is not what happened in the Henry Nowak case. Nowak was killed in December 2025. Once police realised they had been deceived on the scene, they rapidly investigated, properly.

They secretly recorded Digwa and his brother talking to one another, in Punjabi, about how they planned to mislead officers about the attack. Police quickly amassed more than enough evidence for prosecutors to use.

Less than six months after his killing, Nowak’s attacker has been convicted of murder and sentenced to at least 21 years in prison. Police failed Nowak in his final moments alive, but the justice system delivered exactly as it was supposed to do so for his family. Showing truly admirable restraint and forbearance, Nowak’s father said, clearly, that “we do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension”.

Reform Home Affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf advocates a future government would make decisions on locations of detention centres solely/primarily on political grounds.
Zia Yusuf, Reform’s home affairs spokesman, has now disclosed that none of the new centres would be built in areas that elect Reform councillors or MPs.

“Even though illegal migrants will not be allowed to leave the sites, we are committing to not placing these detention sites in areas with a Reform MP or where Reform controls the council,” he told The Telegraph.

“Given the Green Party advocates for open borders and for an infinite number of undocumented men to come here, we will prioritise Green constituencies and Green-controlled councils to locate these detention centres.

“This is the fairest approach to ensuring democratic consent for all aspects of our mass deportation programme.”

The handbook states, "[DJo everything you can to empower the boys when filming."2 MrBeast directs employees

employees be subjected to sexual harassment that was both condoned and/or perpetuated by their
supervisors. For example, the Company's former CEO James Warren ("Warren") both subjected
Plaintiff to sexual harassment (making her meet him in his home for one-on-one meetings while commenting on the way she looked in her clothes) and dismissed her complaint about a male client's unwelcome advances toward her as nothing (telling her that she should be honored that
the client was hitting on her). When she asked why Donaldson would not work with her on certain projects, Warren told her that she is a beautiful woman and her appearance had a certain sexual effect on Jimmy.14. Plaintiff was treated differently than her male counterpart. Plaintiff was told to

Donaldson said he would only participate in her video shoot if she brought him a beer—a task
meant to demean her as she rushed around the production site in search of a beer in front of the production team when it was known Donaldson didn't really drink, and he indeed did not drink the beer.

I was teaching a class yesterday on the 1984-85 miners' strike. Here's an extract from Kinnock's speech to the 1984 Labour Conference. Whether you agree with him or not, it's a sustained argument for the parliamentary road to socialism. Now we get single-sentence paragraphs on "national renewal".
"We see unjust laws - laws which are nothing more than prejudice made statute. And every fibre rages against the injustice and the waste of all that. And we ask ourselves: what we can do about it? For socialists that is the question of the ages - because it is in our very nature, in our conviction, that we want to do something. It was a question faced by our move¬ment in the 1930s; and they came back with the answer that the democratic road was the only route for British socialism. All other options, they said, were closed since socialism by insurrec¬tion was pure fantasy, and socialism without the ballot box would simply never secure the support and understanding of the British people. They were right. (Applause) They were right in times even more dangerous than ours, when fascism was pressing at every gate of liberty. Democracy is the first premise of our socialism; it is a matter of principle, not of convenience; it is a matter of commonsense, not of tactics.
We are not being smug and cosy, and giving in for the duration of the Tory government, when we hold to our belief in democracy. We are upholding the only system which can give us power; the only system that we want to give us power; and the only system that we are prepared to wield when we have that power. Democracy is our cause at all times and in every respect. (Applause) That is not a call to wait in idleness; it is not a call to relax until the election comes along. On the absolute contrary, it is a call to action - action to articulate and publicise the complaint of the people, for if they cry quietly, they will cry alone; action to break through the indifference to the scandals of social deprivation and industrial destruction in this country; action to pressure ministers and promote concessions; action to rouse and rally and resist; action to pro¬tect and promote the interest of the people that we are in politics to help; action that is continual; action that recruits and mobilises new people in our ca…
