if I had to guess, I would say that a lot of corporations who foresee a coming blue wave but don’t want lose the right altogether are going to try and split the difference the way centrist Dems do: visible support for cis queers, combined with “just asking questions” about trans kids in sports

I think it’s going to become increasingly important for cis queers to resist the nice man in uniform who is hustling us this way toward the lifeboats on the deck of the Titanic while explaining that trying to squeeze in the trans folks will just slow the boats down so jump now and don’t look back

Virtue signaling is good*, actually, because it signals an endorsement of virtues. Given the tremendous right-wing effort to signal and perform vice (televised executions, racist politicized raids, denigration of empathy, etc.) turns out we cannot actually take "lip service to virtue" for granted.

I just can't get over the last sentence. These fabled male readers are yearning *yearning* for masculine books by masculine authors! Vut tragically, Hemingway, McMurty et al wrote no books that they could possibly read. No books to be found.

I'm seeing headlines about how 25% of students admitted to university without qualifications fail to complete their degrees, and that this is justification for preventing people without qualifications from accessing student loans. That means *75%* of students without qualifications complete degrees.

100000% agree. When children don't have the words to describe themselves (whether neurodivergent or LGBT or whatever) and their differences are treated as inconvenient *at best*, then they end up believing that they are wrong.

11. But the economics are clear, allowing people to continue to suffer without treatment and support is expensive and unconscionable. According to NHS England, not treating ADHD costs the UK economy ~£17 billion in lost tax, benefits, unemployment, health/social care/justice costs

1. The independent Taskforce — commissioned by NHS England, backed by government — concluded ADHD is under-diagnosed, under-recognised and under-treated in the UK. Not over. The press has reported the reverse of the finding www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

I certainly hope that none of the companies working on AI ever succeed in creating actual machine consciousness, because none of those companies has any idea how to treat the humans who work for them in an ethical, moral, compassionate manner. Those companies will do far worse to conscious machines.

Possibly, the stereotypes of bi women are being promiscuous and untrustworthy which makes them less believable as victims and therefore less risky targets for predators. Trans women experience horrifying levels of DV as well and they are another group that is systematically devalued.

Linothel @linothel.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Another example of this pattern is DV rates for bi women. If "being in a relationship with a man" was the only risk factor, you would expect straight women to have the highest risk but bi women have higher rates.

Linothel @linothel.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Another one is domestic violence rates between women in same sex relationships.

Linothel @linothel.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
It's not both-sidesing it. Women are less likely to commit sexual assault but there are high rates of abuse and bullying in female-dominated professions such as nursing and teaching.

One of the eye opening things for me about the article I linked to is that repeat rapists were choosing victims who would not be believed and attacking them in ways that made their stories easy to dismiss.

Linothel @linothel.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
However, I do think that @marykmac.bsky.social is right and many people of all genders are comfortable ignoring or dismissing harm to people of lower social status.

Linothel @linothel.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I don't think that's true. There is a blog post from 2012 that reviews the studies thar were available then. It concludes that most rapes are committed by a small number of repeat offenders and they make up about 4 to 12% of the population. yesmeansyesblog.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/m...

He literally set off a bomb in a UK street. If this had been the IRA Pierce would calling for them to be hung, drawn and quartered. This is domestic terrorism pure and simple. A bomb set off to terrorise with the aim of getting a government to change its policy. Literally a textbook definition.

Be under no illusion: this is a significant victory for everyone who stuck their neck out and defended jury trials, day after day, clause by clause. But it is not a comprehensive victory. Magistrates should not be allowed to send people to prison for two years.
