We should very much want the people who populate the governments, institutions, and corporations that mostly run our world to be humane and empathetic.

Consider what workers the Houston government hasn’t supported: educational assistants, long-term care workers, and library workers. No one is getting rich doing these jobs but what they offer is invaluable to all of us.

I would like to have councillors who love this city, and want to make it better for future generations, who have the curiosity and tenacity to keep dive into the issues, who make evidence-based decisions, and who aren’t easily lobbied by corporate interests.

As people contact their NS MLAs about recent cuts, you should specific ask if their trying to increase out-migration. The province said they had specific population goals, but these cuts will encourage people -especially younger Nova Scotians- to leave.

I hate the fact that stories about this ignore that bike lane spending is $65 million out of a $3bn capital budget of which we can only actually pay for $1.8bn of $3bn before we run out of money and debt. Cutting 0.021% of the capital budget is not fiscal responsibility, it's affordability suicide.

Transit advocates decry Halifax mayor's autocentric plan to address traffic congestion by providing more space for cars "If transit is to work it must be freed from having to compete with cars for existing road space. That means bus lanes or other forms of separated rights of way" – February 1974
A scan of a newspaper column by Douglas Fullerton published in the 4th Estate on February 7, 1974. It is titled "Hang on, public transit is winning!" and describes an Ecology Action Centre public meeting with the mayor of Halifax, Walter Fitzgerald, and three other panelists including the columnist. The discussion centred on the city's proposals to deal with traffic problems by constructing new roads, rather than by investing in public transit. According to the author, the mayor argued in favour of these proposals and against transit priority measures such as bus lanes on the grounds that Halifax's roads are too narrow. The columnist called for transit priority measures, financial assistance from higher levels of government, and a public pressure campaign in favour of transit.

So, let's talk about East Dalhousie. This site isn't a surprise because it's part of a larger economically depressed region. Uranium mining will pollute groundwater & homes in this area rely on wells. It's likely mining companies will move into Lunenburg Co., affecting the LaHave River watersheds.

We are blessed with an impressive tree canopy and range of species here in Halifax but more is always better :-) Was curious to see bus stop coverage after seeing this report "Heat stress mitigation by trees and shelters at bus stop" (link and explanations of map in alt text) TLDR: Trees good.
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S136192092500063XA map of most of the regional centre of Halifax. The green overlay are trees planted according to HRM Open Data (only trees planted in last 5 years seem to have "planted at" dates), and the red dots are bus stops.

The image shows a generous coverage of trees across the regional centre with areas which clearly lack coverage. There is no simple means to distinguish between mature and younger trees
