Amy notes that China has joined Japan is now onselling Australian gas. FMD we *really* need to tax the gas. Barely a more obvious policy has presented itself. One political party will do it and they will get all the advantage. #TaxTheGas www.thenewdaily.com.au/news/politic...

Labor’s hypocrisy on coal and gas means Australia’s climate authority, especially with our Pacific neighbours, is falling apart. Pacific Island leaders are boldly fighting to protect their nations from deadly global warming caused by coal & gas. It’s literally a life and death struggle for them.

Wilson says Coalition would find savings by cutting NDIS, aged care, childcare

By Emily Kaine

Shadow treasurer Tim Wilson says a Coalition government will seek to make savings by cutting back on NDIS, aged care and childcare, as he argues spending on the schemes is out of control.

Reason Number 4,385 why the PRRT needs to be replaced with a 25% tax on gas exports: companies can use to the cost of decommissioning a gas plant to offset their PRRT. So they offset the cost of setting up the plant *and* then get credits for the cost of decommissioning it! Farce.
Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook 2025–26 | Petroleum resource rent tax receipts have been revised down by $0.5 billion in 2025–26 and by $1.5 billion over the four years to 2028–29. This downgrade reflects a lower assumed oil price and an increase in credits for decommissioning expenditure incurred by projects no longer producing.

You often hear from gas companies that "yeah but we pay state royalties!!!" Lol nope. WA drivers pay more in rego and licence fees than gas companies pay WA in royalties. Heck WA gamblers pay more tax. And that's incredible given WA does NOT have pokies in pubs and clubs
Chart showing: WA drivers and gamblers pay more tax than gas companies pay royalties: 2025-26

Rego: $1,520m
Vehicle licence duty: $678m
Gambling taxes: $403m
Oil and gas royalties: $385m

The Gas industry now saying a 25% export tax would "stop investment in new gas supply, leading to gas shortfalls" Bullshit. Utter bullshit. 83% of Australia's gas is exported. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE
But the gas industry’s peak representative body, Australian Energy Producers, said a 25% levy against its exports would come at the “worst possible time for Australia’s economy and energy security”.

“Imposing higher taxes on Australian gas producers would stop investment in new gas supply, leading to gas shortfalls, higher energy prices, and the closure of Australian industries that rely on reliable and affordable gas,” AEP’s chief executive officer, Samantha McCulloch, said.Chart showing

in 2023-24 9,951PJ of gas was exported or used in LNG plants to convert gas to LNG

1,034PJ was used in Australia
