“What I've seen over the last few weeks are people who are excited about our plans. We are going to build and grow.” Zack Polanski reflects on the Holborn & St Pancras by-election as we more than tripled our vote share in the constituency from the last general election.

Well, bigotry was won once again. Another Labour MP to nod sagely on to the persecution of my community. Great.

I've seen a lot of people assuming (probably quite maliciously) that every single person who voted for Andrew Feinstein in 2024 would have voted for the Greens had he not stood. That is quite clearly, obviously not the case.

I am appalled by the motion Reform has brought to the Scottish Parliament today, an abhorrent attempt to stir up anti-Muslim hatred, to make Muslim women feel othered, unwelcome and unsafe. It is designed to make people feel fearful and push people out of public space. We will not let that happen.

12 years ago the Conservatives promised Scotland ‘devo-max’. Now they show contempt for democracy and plan a powergrab of devolved powers. When we reject them at the ballot box, their answer isn't to improve their policies, it's to threaten the Parliament Scotland elected.

Another by-election this week, in Aberdeen's Midstocket and Rosemount ward. Labour ran the SNP close in 2022, and could again, but that may depend on the level of transfer bleed arising from Reform's presence. NOTE: This is an auto-post, I am on holiday very much not in Scotland still!

By-Election Preview: Midstocket and Rosemount (Aberdeen) 8th of October 2026
The sad passing of a long serving SNP councillor sets up a fierce contest with Labour, where the Conservatives could bar the latter’s way, and which the Greens will also be watching closely.

Kemi Badenoch’s threat to strip Holyrood of powers shows what the Tories think of Scotland’s democracy. When people reject them their answer is to threaten the powers of the Parliament we elect. Russell Findlay needs to say whether he opposes this threat and what he intends to do about it.

I take a principled view on this which is that Scotlands parliament was resurrected by referendum and only be referendum can it be ended or reduced in scope, anything else is an attack on Scottish democracy

The Tories have 12 MSPs in the Scottish Parliament (with one of them, in my view, being illegitimate) and at the last Holyrood election they won 11.8% of the vote. They currently have 6 MPs in Scotland (In 2024 they elected 5, on 12.7%). Even on a very good day I struggle to see how they elect

Unionists are deeply uncomfortable with Scots having any power over anything. Devolution is vulnerable to attack from Westminster whenever it suits them. Independence is the only way to protect our ability to make our own decisions.

The typical household gas bill has gone up by 33% since April. Clean renewable energy generation is Scotland's best path to energy security and lower bills.
Carbon Brief. Wind and solar save UK from gas imports worth £5.9bn during Hormuz crisis. Wind and solar have generated a record 41% share of the UK’s electricity needs in 2026 to date, compared with 25% from gas.

This was the breaking point for me. This is a perfectly reasonable and empathetic amendment that respects family ties and Jewish community institutions. It in no way undermined the purpose of the emotion as sold. To vote against it is absolutely unhinged and, in my opinion, openly antisemitic.
