It really is odd and fascinating what persists. It seems plausible that come 2048 more people will know of and talk about Dodie Smith and her relatively obscure novel I CAPTURE THE CASTLE, published 100 years earlier, than once-superfamous-A-lister Johnny Carson. Cult art really lasts.

So @gabliotecaria.northsky.social pointed out the similarity between these two kittens and the fact that we have to assume Reacher rescued the kitty from Starmer.

An illustration of a man in a waistcoat with a large bushy beard, where four larks, a wren, two owls and a hen nest. The caption in this page from Edward Lear's A Book of Nonsense reads: 'There was an old man with a beard, who said, "It is just as I feared! - Two owls and a hen, four larks and a wren, have all built their nests in my beard!"'

One of my fave things in York Minster: a medieval wren stalking a spider. It reminds me that history isn't only kings and battles. Someone, centuries ago, found joy in the same things we still notice today. It's a reminder of how much we have in common over our differences.

Y’all I know a lot of things are real bad right now, but here’s one of them
A listing for — and this is real — “Marrō Sparkling Bone Broth” in Blueberry Lemonade flavor. It calls itself “Wellness Fuel” and a “Revitalizing Protein Refresher.” It claims to have 12 grams of protein. The can is blue and yellow and features a skull wearing a bandana and sunglasses.

I am as confused as you are. Please know that seeing the picture would not make it make more sense.

Hello Wednesday. Bats with Umbrellas, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, 1882.
As described, It depicts bats in place of actors from the popular kabuki play Chūshingura.
The print is a parody, replacing the play's dramatic actors with bats.

Well, that was a fucking ride.
A cropped screenshot of an article section titled "Gary Larson cartoon incident" from a Tumblr page. The text describes a controversy involving a Far Side cartoon and Jane Goodall.

_____________

Gary Larson cartoon incident

_____________

In 1987 Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[127] The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing.[128]

She went on to name it her favourite depiction of herself in pop culture.[129] Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute.[130]

Goodall wrote the preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy.[131] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals.

In 1988 Larson visited Goodall's research facility in Tanzania.[128] While there, he was attacked by a chimpanzee named Frodo.[127][132]

my latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.
