NOT A SINGLE FUCKING THING. There was already so much to read, look at, learn, explore, collage, so much weirdness and trueness and falseness and brilliance on the internet. And it got fucked up not because people wanted to earn money, but because a few people were determined to earn a LOT of money

we fucking loved it, even when there was basically nothing on it, and let me tell you something else: we loved it because of human connection, human diversity, human creativity. WE DON'T NEED A SINGLE THING ANY OF THESE COMEMIERDAS HAVE MADE AND TRIED TO SELL US IN ORDER TO HAVE A GREAT INTERNET.

Instead, have it refer to itself as "the system." All of a sudden, all that wank from the press releases about skynet-levels-of-consciousness is clearly revealed for what it actually is, which is a large language model.

For those of you with day jobs where you're forced to use LLMs or be fired, good tip I gleaned this weekend, which is to tell the LLM to stop referring to itself using "I" pronouns and to eliminate the praise and other attempts to humanize itself. You get a much cleaner interaction w/o the marketing

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas. Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

This is one of those headlines where, though they are becoming more and more common, it requires such a leap of imagination for normal people, that the scale of it is is hard to communicate. It’s like our world is screaming at us, but it’s in a frequency most of us can’t hear.

“Stopping By for a Rest and a Visit”
giclée art print

The crescent moon takes a break from its celestial journeys to rest in the arms of an accommodating tree. Whilst taking a rest it visits with a favourite earthling: a cat. The cat sits at the base of the tree in a pool of moonlight and stares up at his friend.

removing women from sports is a tentpole of their goal to remove women from higher education. they want to remove women's options so they can force women into the 1950s housewife roles they dream of recreating. well 1950 is right, they want to take the whole country back to the 1850s socially.

The FDA approved mifepristone 26 years ago today and it’s been safe and effective since. Still, the GOP has tried to abuse an antiquated law to ban the distribution of mifepristone and sneak into a national abortion ban, bringing us back to the 1800s. I intro'd the Stop Comstock Act to stop them.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Elizabeth I refused to name her successor, but on her deathbed in 1603 she finally named James VI of Scotland. Allegedly. Of course, the only people in the room were members of her Privy Council, who wanted James VI to inherit. And she was beyond speech, only made a gesture. Just thinking…
