In 1835, NY newspaper The Sun published six articles about how astronomer Sir John Herschel had found life on the Moon using a large telescope. The articles described how he saw plants, animals, and a race of humanoids with bat-like wings. It was all a hoax, now known as the "Great Moon Hoax."
"Lunar animals and other objects Discovered by Sir John Herschel in his observatory at the Cape of Good Hope and copied from sketches in the Edinburgh Journal of Science." Printed in 1835 for the newspaper The Sun.

Anyone done any work with/for CreativeWorkStudios and Public Archive? I think its a rare non ai/gmail artist/author scam but maybe I'm just cynical.

Found the email I sent when I got accidentally added to the faculty listserv of an orthopedic surgery clinic and nobody would remove me so I sent this email to all faculty/staff/med students and they removed me almost immediately
Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

out loud treat it like its a fucking monologue innit. just look at your audience sometimes. don't shuffle your feet. if you feel a little cunty get cunty with it. that's it, those are the cardinal rules. 2/2

i have so much to say about poetry and performance, but ultimately it boils down to the fact that you do the work a disservice if you read it in a cadence that obscures meaning (like 'poetry voice' so called) rather than in a more natural one that actively communicates.

not to extend the discourse, but i would argue that most poetry is written at least partly “for performance”, as its roots (in the west anyway, but probably elsewhere if not everywhere) are in music and sound patterning and aural play

'Committal' by @samueltongue.bsky.social badlilies.uk/samuel-tongue
Committal
A hill to die on, not once but many times.
Even in this airlock of a burial cairn, I hear the drumming of a big heart, a sizzle of rain, & the newly electrified trains running their static. This lair is a quiet den, a bone-deep home, the wind about its business outside, & the motorway full of toys.
I lost my gloves climbing this wet street, a scuff quartered from a precious hill.
The ancients ourselves knew to keep the dead tightly bound, ligatured for birth through death's tight canal.
Fine pottery, stone-axe heads, food & drink. We have finished the bread you had left in the freezer, the last piece as good as the first. On a clear day, we can see coast-to-coast from here.

I think a problem with a lot of 'retellings' is that the writer goes in with an attitude like they've 'solved' the original story, or 'corrected' it in some way. That usually results in something bad. But a writer who is in conversation with the work, who is exploring different elements? better.

To jump off this point to something else - this is the thought process that leads to people thinking feeling 'uncomfortable' gives them the right to destroy the percieved source. It's what leads to fascist and exterminatory thought process.
