not to extend the discourse, but i would argue that most poetry is written at least partly “for performance”, as its roots (in the west anyway, but probably elsewhere if not everywhere) are in music and sound patterning and aural play

Another conversation I could have spent even longer having; it was great fun to talk about May We Feed the King by Rebecca Perry but honestly even more fun to listen to Ryan being absolutely fascinating about The End of Everything and M. John Harrison, and Dan linking all sorts of things together.

had fun writing a review which was really difficult. at times i didn’t know what i was doing but because i only really had my brain and the poetry to work with i spent a lot of time thinking through the process. if i had just used AI as soon as i encountered difficulty I would be so much worse off

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

to be clear also as someone who can’t drive and has an energy-limiting disability neither driving nor cycling are an option for me. i walk and take the bus or train. talking to me as if i’m secretly shilling for cars is bizarre. in my ideal world we’d all be served by a mix of train/tram…

also thinking a lot about how #MeToo apparently went too far, when it’s quite obvious now that it didn’t go far enough. it didn’t really go anywhere. there were no lasting consequences of that cultural moment beyond people making jokes about it.

Having real #MeToo flashbacks today, what with various news stories going around, and thinking a lot about how women were encouraged to rip themselves open and show off our trauma, in all its Technicolor glory, so that men might begin to believe us

the degree to which cyclists ignore cycle diversion notices and signs telling them to dismount because a cycle path is closed (AFTER they ignored the diversion sign) is mad to me. they completely insist on riding their bikes on narrow pathways for pedestrians and knocking into people

you all want to be middle aged but even as life expectancy has got longer, people are pegging the start of middle age as younger. stop compressing your life and wanting to be in another stage. middle age has always been a thing that starts in your 40s somewhere (some say 40, some 45)

on of the things i don’t understand is why we came to such a consensus point where most scholarly editions as well as most trade editions of poems (and plays and prose!) by early modern writers are only presented in modernised spelling
