Ed Miliband is, as far as I can think, the only cabinet minister in this government (except possibly Rayner) to have both clearly been largely successful in policy delivery and not have vacillated like a weathervane under pressure. These are both key attributes for a Chancellor!

Wouldn’t let him go for anything under £50m. We’ve no pressure to sell one of our best players from last season, long contract, and we know they’ve got a lot of money. If he goes, time to stop letting our best players leave for a pittance.

The attacks on Ed Miliband, the one truly successful person running a department under Starmer, shows that the lack of seriousness in British politics goes way beyond No.10 to the press, the trade unions, the business sector.

I really liked Jeff's thread, but as one of the early originators of the carbon footprint concept, I want to address this misconception because I've heard it often.

I think I can hear 70 million Chinese people saying "We're responsible for less than 1% of global emissions, so why should we have to do anything?! We can't solve climate change!" Oh, look there's another group of 70 million Chinese people saying "We're responsible for less than 1%..."

the developing centrist consensus in British politics and political journalism is that attempting to do anything about this visible climate breakdown is stupid, and caring about it a lot is a fringe, unserious perspective

Can’t recommend this highly enough. First 2 seasons of this are by far my favourite piece of audio drama and I’m over the moon that the crowdfunding model is allowing the story to continue. Check it out if you’re not familiar - you won’t need to listen to the previous series to start the new one.

It’s the same as in football - people have this idea that changing manager is what damages the team, and not picking a manager that’s bad enough that you end up needing to change manager. Sticking with bad manager or PM isn’t going to help anything
